"What people like about stop-motion animation is that it's real. It's like a magic trick, taking real things, real sets, and making them come to life with movement." - (Joe Clokey)
Stop Motion Animation
A few people have emailed in asking just how easy is it to create stop motion animation with I Can Animate. Well of course you can try it for yourself, just download the Free trial applications to your device, PC, Mac iOS or Android, but we'll also try to show you.
I Can Animate was originally designed for schools and to be used by children as young as 4 years old but had features that would allow older children and adults to explore animation and be able to create great looking animations, even if they had never created an animation before. We believe we got it right as within a few months of release it won a major education award.
The computer aids in the creation, speeding up the whole process, after all you are going to capture 12 frames for every second of animation, so for just 30 seconds that's... 360 frames. I Can Animate is still being used by schools, home users and budding animators, all over the world and has some great features.
Getting Started
We're going to jump right in without doing all those things we recommend you start off with before actually animating, the story, the story board, sorting your 'actors', scenery, props, audio files etc ready before hand. We want you to see just how easy it really is and we'll look at the Windows version in this process,, but the other platforms are just as easy.
First of all, with a computer you're going to need a webcam. For testing you can use the built in one, if your computer has one, but to animate successfully you are going to need an external one to plug into your computer and a high definition, HD, one is best.
Start by downloading the I Can Animate installer to your computer (we've provided the links below).
Run the installer and just follow the prompts. Once installed, make sure your camera is plugged in and run the software. You might be prompted for a licence code, but to start with you don't need it. I Can Animate will run in demo mode for a while and is fully functional on the computers (Mobile is restricted).
We've created a 'Quick Start' sheet for you to follow to get started.
