This Week in our Common Book, The Boys in the Boat
A great team must share a vision.
As a leader, it is your responsibility to impart this to your team. To inspire them to want to bring this vision to come to fruition regardless of the challenges ahead. When you can create that kind of shared, aligned sense of vision among a team of like-minded and talented people, greatness follows.

“Harmony, balance, and rhythm. They’re the three things that stay with you your whole life. Without them civilization is out of whack. And that’s why an oarsman, when he goes out in life, he can fight it, he can handle life. That’s what he gets from rowing. — George Yeoman Pocock.”

― Daniel James Brown, The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics
Annual Fund: Now Open!
Shortly, you will be receiving an Annual Fund letter, accompanied by a pledge envelope, in the mail. You may donate now or pledge a certain amount to give at a later date. We greatly appreciate whatever you are able to contribute. Remember, we are looking for 100% giving from all our families. It is not about the amount of money you are able to give, it is the participation percentage that is our goal. Any amount is most appreciated.

If you would like, you may also contribute online at the following link: http://www.middleburgacademy.org/annual-fund-1/

In the near future, we will be announcing a special contest for the Annual Fund within our school community, broken down by grade level. Please stay tuned for some exciting details!
Halloween Candy Donations Still Needed
Every year, Middleburg Academy has a float in the Leesburg Halloween Parade. During the parade, students distribute candy to parade spectators, and we rely on donations of candy from our families in order to make this happen. We are still in need of candy! We request bags of individually wrapped goodies of your choice. Please bring the candy into Mary House.
Please Note: Upcoming Driveway Closure for Cross Country Meet

We will be hosting a cross country meet this Thursday, October 11th, starting at the entrance and including Creek Ridge Lane, the driveway will be closed from about 4:35 - 5:00pm. Please try to arrive/depart either before or after that time if you are entering or leaving campus. Thank you!

Couchfest on October 19th:
YOU Are Invited!
Some of you may be asking, what is Couchfest?

Couchfest is an annual tradition at Homecoming when the couches designed at Couchbuild (donated couches are mounted on wheels and steering devices are engineered) are launched down the driveway. Which couch will go the farthest? Which couch steers the best? Which couch looks the nicest? These are all questions that will be answered! Take a peek at the video below to get an idea of what Couchfest is like.
Another great thing about Couchfest, and Homecoming in general, is that we invite and encourage families and friends to join us! Classes are dismissed early, and Homecoming begins. There is Couchfest, chili and beef stew in Mary House, a bonfire, and more. Please see an invitation below, which also includes a timeline of events for the day (please note that the driveway closes at 1:30pm before Couchfest, so arrive early). It is a great opportunity to enjoy campus in its fall splendor as you mingle with fellow parents.

Students, be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, October 20th, the date of our homecoming dance! The dance will be from 7:30-10:30pm in Mary House. More details coming soon.
Please RSVP to Wendy Heuer at heuer@middleburgacademy.org so that we can get an accurate headcount to prepare food for everyone!
Save the Date: Admissions Open House on Friday, October 26th

Our first Admissions Open House of the year is coming up on Friday, October 26th from 8-11am. If you have any friends or family members who may be interested in learning more about Middleburg Academy and the opportunities we can offer their children, please encourage them to attend! Word of mouth is one the best way to attract new families to Middleburg Academy; we love having references from current students and their parents!

Registration is recommended. Please direct them to this link: http://www.middleburgacademy.org/open-house-registration or they may contact Kasey Morris directly via email at kmorris@middleburgacademy.org or by calling the main school number and asking to speak with her.
Political Internship Opportunity
The Barbara Comstock for Congress campaign is currently searching for high school students who are looking for a fall internship or earning government and community service hours. Student interns will gain knowledge about the political process and learn to become adept communicators through hands-on experience with Congresswoman Comstock and her campaign in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. Participants get exposure to all aspects of campaigning including attending events with elected officials like Speaker Paul Ryan, Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Vice President Mike Pence.

These fall internship and volunteer opportunities are open to any eligible students and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Previous campaign experience is helpful, but not required. Responsibilities and assignments will be age appropriate. Hours are flexible, but students must be able to commit to at least 5 hours per week.  This internship will take place at our offices in Chantilly, McLean or Purcellville.

Eligible students can be provided with academic credit, service hours, or simply a unique learning experience. While these positions begin unpaid, there are opportunities for advancement including the potential for part-time employment. Upon completion of the program, a letter of recommendation to a future employer or college will also be provided.

Interns are expected to assist the campaign with:
  • Headquarters Management
  • Community Outreach Activities
  • Social Media Outreach
  • Grassroots Voter Contacts
  • Recruiting and Organizing Volunteers
  • Event Planning: Parades and Festival Coverage

We look forward to having you, your son or daughter, or an interested student you may know join our team.
