We are all familiar with the old adage, “It takes a village to raise a child.” We believe at NewCity that God has called the entire church community to raise our children to both understand and embrace the gospel in their lives. The challenges facing parents in today’s cultural climate are significant. We must face these challenges together in a community where we are known & loved and can repent of our shortcomings and celebrate our successes in the face of these challenges.
Our mission at NewCity is to make whole-life disciples for their callings. As followers of Jesus Christ, we all share a primary calling as children of God. In addition to our primary calling as children of God, there are a host of secondary callings on our lives as we labor to build God’s kingdom. One of those callings is that of parenting.
The Parenting Forum will bring our church community together for a conversation on concrete ideas to more fully delight, disciple, and discipline our children. We have assembled a panel of experienced parents from our church body to engage and encourage us in that conversation.
The Parenting Panel: Timothy and Boni Pent, Kelley and Amy Wilson, and Bill and Cathy Stephens have raised 17 children between them with 120 years of collective parenting experience. I believe that we have much to learn from their experience and each other as we seek to see our parenting increasingly transformed by the gospel.
Regardless of whether you are a parent or not, I would encourage everyone to come be a part of the conversation as we explore parenting and bringing up children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord” - as our membership vows so pointedly call us to. I look forward to this time of learning and encouragement together and hope you will join us.
