LAKESHORE IS DANCING!
WINNERS: Annual Giving Campaign
This year proved that Lakeshore is growing into a community powerhouse. Our goal was to repeat last year's success in combining multiple fundraisers into one big one which would fund the PTA until the auction in the spring. We appreciate the creative thinking by so many people in our community who found ways to involve friends, family, coworkers, and employers in the effort. Thank you to everyone who participated. Your generosity allows us to continue to provide a stellar enrichment program. Including employer matching, you have pledged:
$109,842

You absolutely crushed our goal of $64,000! What a great way to begin the year.

Because we reached our goal, we earned a school-wide dance party on Friday, October 26. Tentatively, grades K-2 will celebrate from 1:40-2:25pm and grades 3-5 from 2:35-3:20pm.

Email pta@LakeshoreElementary.org with your ideas on how to use the surplus funds, or share your ideas in person at our PTA meetings. The next PTA meeting is tomorrow, Thursday, October 18. Now let's get to the classroom prizes!

Prizes are awarded to the 3 classes with highest participation:
  • Mrs. Wu, 70.0%
  • Ms. Angela, 72.7%
  • Ms. Jordan, 90.5%
And also to the classes with the highest amounts raised in grade groups:
  • SDC: Ms. Klein, $1,235
  • 4th and 5th grade: Mr. Gonzalez, $5,546.00
  • 3rd grade: Mrs. Fusscas, $3,203.50
  • 2nd grade: Mr. Joseph, $4,475
  • 1st grade: Ms. Hopper, $18,955
  • Kinder: Ms. Fernandez, $20,795
Great effort! These classes each receive a Principal's Pizza Party. Shout out to a few other classes who didn't place but did an amazing job raising over $3800 or more: Ms. Palacio, Ms. Kelsey, Ms. Egan-Bell, and Ms. Tyler. Kudos to Mr. Gonzalez’s fifth-grade class who had 16 kids participate. It can be a challenge to motivate upper grades to participate but this class tied for second highest number of kids participating! Finally, hats off to the 10 families who got 4 donors, 6 families who got between 5 and 9 donors, and Stacey Rivera who got 19 donors to help Lakeshore. If you have a fundraising story to share, please email pta@LakeshoreElementary.org so we can collect and inspire.

There are too many folks to thank in this space so please visit our thank you and wrap-up report for all the amazing people who made this campaign happen. It took people to write those letters that went home, stuff envelopes, count pledge forms, design the flyers and bulletin boards, fulfill spirit gear for Spirit Friday, make weekly announcements, and more. What a tremendous team effort! Great job to all!
Thank You Corner:
Walk & Roll to School Day

Special thanks to all the students and families who participated in our Walk & Roll to School Day! A quick shout out to Chris McCarthy, Cambria Gersten, Laura Batie, Nick Lanham, Mike Beitiks, Brian Stannard, Tim Daly and all who offered extra hands to make this happen. Go Lakeshore!!
PTA Meeting Tomorrow (6pm)
Thank you all who came to our first PTA meeting last month. Our next meeting will be held tomorrow October 18 at 6 pm. After brief business, the agenda includes:

1. Mr. Hartford sharing his goals this year and updates on projects already in the works, with time for Q&A.
2. Your ideas for improving Lakeshore, such as:
  • School beautification or other projects
  • Topics you want covered at PTA meetings or school assemblies
  • Supporting existing programs at Lakeshore
Please come and give your input! As always, childcare and snacks are provided for potty-trained kids 4+ ($5 suggested donation).
Help with Lakeshore Tours
Do you love Lakeshore and want to show others how special we are? The Tours team is looking for enthusiastic families to assist with school tours, occurring twice a month on Wednesdays through December, from 10-11:30am. No special skills required. Enthusiasm is more important than the time spent at Lakeshore. Kinder families are especially useful in helping incoming families with the decision process. If you can assist, please email tours@lakeshoreelementary.org.

Our first meeting will be held tomorrow, October 18 at 3:45pm in B3 (Gardening classroom). Please email terriklein@yahoo.com if you will be attending.
Halloween Volunteers Needed

Halloween is only 2 weeks away and we still need VOLUNTEERS to make it a special event at Lakeshore. Kids (and parents) are welcome to come dressed in costumes! Please remember to leave any costume weapons at home. With new head sorcerers conjuring up new thrills, chills, and fun this year, we need new blood to make this a Spooktacular Carnival!

It takes a village to transform the Community Room, run the activities, and quickly breakdown the fun. We still need parents to run the scare booths and face painting stations. Also, please help us breakdown all the fun, so EVERY volunteer can finish in time to go trick or treating (pizza included)! To help, please sign up online at bit.ly/ls18hlw or email halloween@LakeshoreElementary.org.
Lakeshore Autumn Work Day
Saturday, Oct. 20 (10-2pm)

Parents and kids (and friends and family) are welcomed to attend the Autumn Work Day at Lakeshore on Saturday, October 20 from 10am - 2pm. Parents will be pitching in to do some building in the garden area, as well as weeding, mulching, watering, and general clean up. Kids can help, too, or play on the yard. Pizza lunch will be provided. We look forward to seeing you!
EMI: Movement Matters
Thursday, Oct. 25 (5:45-7pm)

Everyday Magic invites the Lakeshore Community to join us for a very important program on Thursday, October 25 from 5:45-7:00pm. Childcare and dinner will be provided.

The Important Relationship between Motor Skills and Academic Performance
Is it possible to support your child's memory, mood, intelligence quotient, and ability to plug into reading, writing, and math all at the same time? YES! Movement is the key.

Our brains are built for movement and movement helps brains grow. Come learn about this fascinating relationship and sensorimotor developments of our children. You will go home with recommendations for fostering your child's gross and fine motor skills as well as sensory processing components that serve as the foundation to these functions. This presentation is offered by a seasoned Pediatric Occupational Therapist and there will be a Q&A session. RSVP by October 22 online here or call (415) 681-9168.
