Teagasc Nursery Stock & Ornamentals Seminar Wednesday 24th October 9.30am

There is an exciting line up planned for the event to be held in 2 weeks time. Seven speakers will bring us up to date with the latest developments in the nursery stock sector and will provide some insight in to aspects of future production programmes.
There will be time during the morning and to get together over coffee and catch up on the latest industry news.
IASIS CPE Credits will be allocated for this event - sign the event register on the day to make sure you get your points.
Registration will open at 9am and the seminar begins promptly at 9.30 and will be finished at 1pm. Refreshments will be served during the morning. Teagasc Ashtown is 5 minutes from the M50 Blanchardstown junction. Directions are at the bottom of the page.

Barry Delany - Plant Health and Trade Updates

Barry is head of horticulture and plant health with the Department of Agriculture Food and Marine. He has a vast experience of plant health regulations having spent time working with the EU Commission in Brussels.

Stuart Mills Fargro - IPM Progamme 
Staurt Mills recently joined the Fargro team. Mills studied at Hadlow College, where he gained an ND in commercial horticulture, and worked until recently as a crop protection expert for New Place Nurseries.
 
Dr Paul Fitters Teagasc - Development of Horticulture Apprenticeship Programme 
Paul has been a lecturer with Teagasc since 2003. He completed his primary degree in horticulture in the Netherlands and his PhD on vine weevil control methods in Maynooth University. He is coordinator for the Teagasc Horticulture Apprenticeship Development programme.
Dr Georgina Key Agriculture Horticulture Development Board - Fertigation and Irrigation - Fertinnowa Practical Implementation Resource
Georgina has been working with AHDB for the last three years and runs the research programmes for the hardy nursery stock sector and protected ornamentals, bulbs and outdoor flowers sectors as well. She completed a PhD in agroecosystems which focused on planting flowering crops through vegetable crops to improve pest control. Georgina previously worked for a number of years in academia doing research on soil fertility. She also spent two years working as a professional gardener before joining AHDB.
 
Keith Sacre Barcham Trees - Climate Change Impacts on Ornamental Tree Section
Keith is Sales Director with Barcham Trees, the largest container tree nursery in Europe. Keith has over twenty year’s experience in local government as Arboriculture & Urban Forest Director.  He also spent eleven years at Notcutt’s Nurseries with responsibility for tree sales to local authorities and other trade outlets. Keith is a member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and a Chartered Arboriculturist. He has a MSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry, a BSc in Social Science and a BSc in Arboriculture. Keith is currently a trustee of the Arboricultural Association and the Trees and Design Action Group (TDAG).
 
Neville Stein - Exploring Opportunities for Agile Companies 
Neville has been working as a consultant in the horticulture sector for over 10 years. He has worked with a range of nurseries in UK, China, New Zealand and for a number of years in Ireland. He is also a board member of AHDB and a trustee of the charity Perennial.
 
Dr Munoo Prasad, Consultant - Potential of Biochar Use in Growing Media
Munoo has been at the forefront of compost research for nearly half a decade. He has worked for much of his career with Bord na Mona, he now works as a research consultant in the area of waste processing and product development from waste both in Ireland and Cyprus.
