BC AHSN Updates | A message from our CEO

Recently, I attended the annual BC SUPPORT Unit patient-oriented research conference. I was delighted to speak about the activities of the British Columbia Academic Health Science Network (BC AHSN) to nearly 300 patients, researchers, health care providers and health system decision makers. I have been inspired by meeting over 100 stakeholders across the Province. Through these interactions, I have been able to introduce the work of BC AHSN and raise awareness of our collaborative efforts, and to seek the opinions and advice of a wide and diverse array of stakeholders and collaborators.

BC SUPPORT Unit | PPF18 conference brings together 300 attendees from across BC; hashtag trends across Canada

BC AHSN was thrilled to support the BC SUPPORT Unit's second annual patient-oriented research conference, called Putting Patients First 2018 (PPF18), held on October 4th, 2018 in downtown Vancouver.

During the opening remarks, Tom Noseworthy spoke about BC AHSN's recent activities. His speech, as well as keynote, plenary and selected breakout sessions, were live-streamed and are archived on the Unit's YouTube channel. For photos taken on conference day, please see the official photo album.

The event hashtag, #PPF18, trended on Twitter in both Vancouver and across Canada thanks to the multiple attendees who tweeted about the conference.

Poster Session Winners Announced

Congratulations to our conference poster session winners! All conference attendee ballots were tallied and Patient Partners Chad Dickie, Lisa Ridgway (pictured in the photo above) and Vancouver Island Centre Research Liaison Taylor Hainstock received the most votes for their poster, called "Does SPOR Mean MORE (Meaningful Opportunities for Research Engagement)?" Clinical Trials | Clinical Trials BC launches new website

Check out another brand-new site! Clinical Trials BC (CTBC) has launched a website following the launch of sites for BC AHSN, the BC SUPPORT Unit and Research Ethics BC (REBC). In addition to collaboration and advice from both a design team and diverse stakeholders, special attention was paid to creating a consistent look, feel and identity to ensure that one visual standard exists across the BC AHSN organization.

Visitors will find a centralized resource for clinical trials in the province, including services and resources offered to BC research sites, recent news and events, professional development opportunities and more. Content will be added as CTBC develops.

With the launch of the final site, all websites within the organization will position BC AHSN well for its next phase of work.

Partner Projects | Research teams sought for BC Showcase site

The BC Clinical Research Showcase (BC Showcase) was developed by Clinical Trials BC to highlight the development and achievements of British Columbia’s clinical research community.

BC Showcase is also used as a global marketing tool, featuring the investigators, research institutes, infrastructure and resources that make the province a premier location for clinical trials. Refreshed in September 2018, the site features new articles such as "Five Great Reasons to Choose BC for Your Next Clinical Trial."

Members of research sites and institutions are encouraged to feature the site URL (bc.cctam.ca) in their resources for clinical researchers or research capacity promotion initiatives, and on social media.

Do you want your research team featured? BC Showcase’s listings are currently being expanded. To profile your research team, please email Alison Orth, Unit Lead.
