 This month’s Volunteer Spotlight is all about a wonderful Beagle Paws volunteer duo: Jessica and Gareth Mitton. After the passing of their senior beagle mix, Rudolph, in the Fall of 2017, Jessica and Gareth began helping out at Beagle Paws in the spring of 2018. They weren't ready to take on a new dog of their own yet, but they still had an affinity for the breed, so Jessica and Gareth began volunteering together at the shelter.
Like many of our fantastic volunteers, Jessica and Gareth help out because they simply enjoy spending time with the dogs. Jessica explains, “they come from such different backgrounds - some from homes, some from situations where they've spent most of their time outside. But they all want love and have so much to give. Hanging out with the dogs, petting and walking them is so rewarding - for us and the doggos!”
Outside the shelter, Jessica and Gareth have also helped out with Beagle Paws as doggie foster parents. One of their favourite moments with the organization was picking up Dallas, a 12-year-old senior beagle. They described their foster experience by saying, “you can almost feel the appreciation. It's as though they know!”
For anyone considering volunteering at Beagle Paws, Jessica and Gareth would say, “Go for it! You only have to do what you can manage, and even a shift here and there hanging out with the dogs at the shelter goes a long way to helping in their journey. Beagles are great fun to be around!”
