CONTINUING TO ASSIST DOMINICA IN RECOVERY EFFORTS!
Following successful completion of our 2018 slate of projects, Macario Advantage is now preparing for projects to be completed during the upcoming January-May 2019 season. Considerable effort will continue to be spent on assisting the people of Dominica, West Indies, in their ongoing struggle to recover from the near-total devastation inflicted by Category 5 Hurricane Maria in September 2017. As before, our primary focus will be on helping local humanitarian organizations return to full operational status so that the most people will benefit.
A couple of the projects that have been selected from among the many urgent needs on the island of Dominica for Season 2019 will provide significant assistance in restoration of two elementary schools that were badly damaged by the hurricane.
DEDICATED TO GIVING HOPE!
Macario Advantage is also planning to begin doing projects on the island of St. Lucia, West Indies. Although some portions of St. Lucia are more developed than Dominica, the fact is that most of the residents still live in severe poverty. We took the opportunity to review potential projects during a trip around the island with two senior members of government.
We visited several facilities and learned of others while meeting with many of the local residents. We observed that shelters and schools are particularly in need of our assistance, including:
- The Marchand Combined School This is an old elementary school in one of the poorer neighborhoods in the capital city of Castries. The building and surrounding grounds need a lot of repair and maintenance work.
- Boys Training Center This is a shelter for boys that have had to be removed from their homes by the courts, or who have gotten into trouble with the law. The facilities need a lot of maintenance work, but the part that would be of most interest to Macario Advantage is repairing a residential and training building for the youngest boys aged 10-13.
- Cornerstone House This is a non-governmental shelter for both men and women that would otherwise be homeless. They barely get by on a very tight budget, and are in desperate need of a lot of help to upgrade furniture and kitchen facilities.
