It happened again. Like a Spider-Man reboot, inevitably distractable, our ReKoners missed releasing our Spring and Fall Recon updates. We advocate getting extra credit points for starting the Spring Recon and letting it get cozy in it's half finished state collecting dust in a drafts folder. No? No, we didn't really think so either.
This Fall Recon will give you all the reconnaissance on our 2018 so far and may by the end earn us your forgiveness for our forgetfulness.

ReKon Productions is officially certified as a Sustainable Business in Culver City. Throughout 2018, we have been working with Balanced Approach Strategetic Sustainability Services to complete 56 out of 82 measures adopting, promoting or practicing sustainability within our business from using LED lighting, to recycling, to giving back to our community. Becoming a sustainable business continues promoting green practices, a favorite focus for PGA Green Members Jon and Lesley (and Shahnti Olcese Brook pictured below) that continue to quiz fellow producers on green facts at the Produced By Conference every year.
Just like the seasons change, so do the faces of ReKon. In the Spring of 2018, Kathy Sue Holtorf joined us as the Director of Brand Strategy. Kathy Sue comes from the whirlwind world of production and social media and has jumped into all things ReKon Brand with gusto. She has been focusing on developing brand strategy throughout our social media platforms as well as rolling up her sleeves to work on some of the incoming productions. Working closely with Kathy Sue is our newly minted Social Media Specialist Hailey Weyer. Shifting from her administrative role as executive assistant, Hailey has been a longstanding loyal member of the team since her Fall internship in 2016!
We will be starting our 3rd ReKon Kan Drive on October 22nd. More details and updates on the annual food drive for Westside Food Bank will be released throughout soon. Be part of our community by bringing by donations to ReKon HQ throughout the month of November.

Have you been keeping up with the ReKon Film Festival circuit? We have been to over 30 film festivals this year with 5 different short films (DO NO HARM, HAJII, THE KID, WHITE WOLVES, and SOJOURN) and 1 digital series pilot (BRANNAN AND THE MONOSEXUALS) and the year isn't over yet! Check out our suggested road trip for the 6 festivals our projects are at this month here.
Back in February, we launched our first Directors Initiative, a program set to invite directors to be active partners with a focus on their own narrative voice and professional growth. Four directors were selected for our inaugural set, based on their previous work and relationship to our producers: Marielle Woods (DO NO HARM), Shawn Butcher (PARKING IN LA), Sarah Koletes (WHITE WOLVES), and Seanne Winslow. The first year of the initiative is about development and exploration. We have produced projects for 3 of the 4 directors thus far, the short film SPIN (Marielle Woods), the music video HOLD ON (Shawn Butcher) and digital spot REIGNS (Seanne Winslow). We will be formally introducing each director and the initiative on our website soon!
ReKon Studio has become a host for SoFar Sounds in Los Angeles. Since the Spring, we have hosted 4 different nights and have had a blast. Watch our ReKon Studio socials for live updates on show nights and check out a SoFar Sounds event near you!

So far this year, we have cast a wide and sturdy net into the ocean of production and caught a little something of everything.
We kicked off 2018 with a digital marketing campaign on Instagram for Sarah Seven. THIS IS ABIGAIL was a five-part series directed by Caitlin Larimore with cinematography by Tim S Jensen and production support from ReKoner Cailtyn Hardy.
Spring was for short films. ReKon's own Jon Blue directed THE ADVENTURES OF PERRY & CLARK in March, due to be released in 2019. We teamed up for the first time with Wanderkino Productions on the production of the short film MUDPOTS, a short soon to be hitting the festival circuit. And our collaboration with Ashworth Entertainment, SPARKS premiered back in September at Laemmle's Royal Theater in Los Angeles.
June brought us together with New Form yet again, this time to produce Robert Love III's pilot presentation of MISERY: LOVE'S COMPANY.
Director Steven J. Kung (A LEADING MAN) got the old band back together to create an original comedy director's reel piece HEALTHY HANNAH. Produced by Lesley Lopez, Jon Michael Kondrath and Justin Bell and starring Linzi Graham, Tiffany Commons and Michael Litchfield.

We returned to one of our favorite filming locations in the Los Angeles area as the location for a high school for CONDOMS & CHERRIES. The short film, directed by Monisha Dadlani, is slated to start a festival run soon, so stay tuned.
John Thomas Schrad hopped on a plane in August to line produce in the Bluegrass state of Kentucky for CATCHING FAITH 2. A faith feature film directed by John Graham and produced by Alexandra Boylan, starring Lorena Segura York, Garrett Weston, and Bill Engvall.
Kristina Kondrath jumped onboard with familiar face, producer Justin Bell, to put together a group of videos for the Touchstorm team for a new Gilette Campaign.
While Kathy Sue Holtorf lent her 1st Assistant Directing skills to the SwipeMarket team on a new spot for Ortho Mattresses.
We've also been busy with some fun promotional and marketing projects for feature films The Spy Who Dumped Me (Those silhouettes, against our green screen in that teaser trailer), Blindspotting (Casual Conversation with Tyler Perry) and American Animals (a PSA telling you not to use your cell phone in the theater).

ReKon Studio hosted 21 different shows in 2018. With 62 days booked from January to October, the studio experienced a 22% booking rate with 33% of the projects booked by returning clients.

The BBC team returned to finish up interviews for PBS' Frontline Season 36, Episode 6 on Harvey Weinstein. The episode originally aired on March 2, 2018. Watch Here!
SHORT FILMS:
Director Marielle Woods returned to ReKon Studio with her AFI Directors Workshop for Women short film SPIN.
Imagos Films had a great time shooting parts of The Messenger short film in the studio.

GUESTS:
Ozzy Osbourne, vocalist, songwriter and actor joined us to appear on an international commercial spot.
DIGITAL SHOOTS:
We hosted a couple of VICE shoots, including the series "The Trump Tapes, Explained." A 4 episode series you can watch now.
REKON ORIGINALS:
All of Her Inspiration, She Is was shot in studio back in December, January and February.
