Fall 2018 Newsletter 

This an update on the status of the Alumni Association, Active Chapter and our interaction with UMD.  

Please enjoy the information and respond accordingly.  As always, we need your involvement to continue to move forward.  

UMD Homecoming - October 13



UMD's Homecoming is a chance to join with brother alumni, actives, pledges and UMD dignitaries. The Alumni Association will be hosting a tailgating party (10A) before the parade (11A) and football game (1P).  UMD is currently ranked 6th in the nation in NCAA Div II football.

The Alumni Association, through its Board of Directors, continues to work with the Active Chapter to strengthen their membership and operations.  In addition to providing scholarships to individual members in conjunction with UMD, we have extended financial help to the organization and offer marketing and mentoring programs.

The Alpha Alumni Board is due for replacement next year.  Please consider volunteering your time for a necessary function.

Most Alpha alumni business is handled by its Board of Directors.  There are seven voting members and three advisory members.  Here are the current Board members:

60th Reunion
Planning is currently underway for the Alpha Nu Omega 60th Reunion to be held September 19-22, 2019 in Duluth.  Jason Golde and Nick Schmidt are spearheading the planning.  Please mark your calendars and wait for further details as they emerge.

Dues and Donations
The organization needs your support to continue our work.  Please consider a generous tax deductible donation to our dues and donations fund.  Dues are still only $30.

,  Alpha Nu Omega Scholarship


Providing scholarships to worthy individuals in the Active Chapter is still the primary mission of the Alumni Association.  Last spring scholarships in the amount of $10,000 were awarded to three recipients to be used in the 2018-19 academic year:.
  • Andreas Aristidou -- Orrick Scholarship ($2000)
  • Christopher Jetter – Banks Scholarship ($5000)
  • S.J. Kim – Knodt Assistantship ($3000)
Again, your donation is needed to increase funding for our scholarships considering the escalating tuition costs.  To date Alpha has awarded over $90,000 in scholarships.

UMD Reunion

Last June the UMD Alumni Association held a 50th reunion for 1968 and other alumni of that era.  This included social events and tours of Duluth, UMD and the Amsoil Arena. A number of old Alphas attended.

Alpha Active Chapter News

Here are the Actives assembling their chariot for the Homecoming chariot race, which they won two years ago.

  
  

The Active Chapter continues to have quality members with good academic standing.  They participate in many campus activities such as volunteering at school sport events like hockey and football..

This fall they are focusing on membership and currently have six pledges..
