Continuing its evolution into a full-blown production major, Netflix has bought ABQ Studios in Albuquerque, New Mexico this week and says it will bring $1bn of production investment to the state, home to hit drama Breaking Bad, over the next 10 years. Comcast has officially taken majority ownership of Sky having, already acquired around 77% of the European operator.
France-based distribution major Banijay, which is reportedly in advanced talks to buy Endemol Shine Group, has acquired French drama producer Terence Films. Over in Scandinavia, Norway's Competition Authority has given Telia the greenlight to acquire TDC-owned Norwegian cable operator, Get, for €2.2bn.
Warner Media says it is gearing up for launch of a direct-to-consumer streaming platform late 2019 that will build on the success of HBO Now. Paramount has been busy this week, forging a first-look partnership with George Clooney's Smokehouse Pictures, as well as launching an OTT service in Poland, dubbed Paramount Play, through mobile operator Play and cable TV operator Toya.
Snapchat has introduced a new format for its original shows, titled Snap Originals, which will showcase daily five minute episodes accompanied by an un-skippable six second advertisement. The social 'camera company' has also extended its relationship with investor NBCUniversal, which has agreed to syndicate 500 hours of its shows on Snapchat.

"Snap also announced that NBCUniversal extended its content production commitments through 2019, and Viacom has committed to creating 10 new Snap Originals. Viacom also committed to syndicating at least 500 episodes of its network’s shows to the Snapchat audience."
