Making the move from home to university easier
Adapting to university life can be difficult and every year hundreds of students tell us they feel homesick or are struggling to settle in. That's perfectly normal and help is at hand. In their first few weeks we sent all students a newsletter packed with advice on everything from overcoming homesickness to eating to improve the way they feel. There was also handy guides to who to turn to for help. Our Student Wellbeing Support Line: 0800 970 5020 is also open 24/7.

Making the most of money
Budgeting can be hard, particularly as we head towards winter break.  Our students are keen to share how they have made the most of their money or landed a part-time job to boost their funds.  Financial planning can also add some structure and peace of mind.
Dr Jonathan Rolison
Weighing up medical treatments
Patients overestimate the benefits and underestimate the risk of  medical interventions which means they could have unrealistic expectations about the treatments they are offered according to new research by Dr Jonathan Rolison, from our Department of Psychology.

Registering with a doctor
As students spend more time at University than they do at home, they should register with a local doctor here - and it's wise to do it before they are ill. At Colchester we have our own health centre on Campus and  the NHS has plenty of advice on finding other services.  Those who haven't had the flu jab before they arrived are advised to get it done as soon as possible.
THINK about the issues that really matter
Our THINK series of lectures encourages staff, students and visitors to engage with the critical issues of the day. Topics for this term include: The Great British Rip Off - Corruption in the UK on 14 November and a Survival Guide to Climate Change on 28 November. Everyone is welcome.
