Free SafeTALK Suicide Prevention

Join us for free suicide prevention training thanks to Grapevine Group. Presented by LivingWorks’ qualified trainers who provide educational and factual information that encourages suicide alertness and promotes suicide-safer communities.
Learn how to identify someone experiencing thoughts of suicide, how to talk to them correctly and how to link them with professional help.

Council drive helping those who help the hungry
Mackay Regional Council’s annual Anti-Poverty Food Drive kicks off again this coming Monday (October 8) and runs until October 26. We are appealing for residents to bring in non-perishable food (in date and undamaged) and toiletries.
Received donations will be given to Anglicare, St Paul’s Uniting Church and Sarina Inter-Church Council to replenish their existing food pantries.
You can drop off your food and toiletry donations to any of the following locations:

- Jubilee Community Centre
- Gordon White Library
- Paget Council Depot
- Sarina Neighbourhood Centre
- Mirani Client Service Centre
- Walkerston Library

Discover IT
The DiscoverIT class program contains a wide range of hands-on, practical sessions in a relaxed environment.
Each class has been designed to provide a starting point into the world of basic computing, email, the Internet, mobile phones, digital cameras and other technologies. ‘e’ is for eLibrary - November is all about eReading, eLearning, being social online, buying online, making the most of your photos and good storage practices. October offers another round of the Basics classes.
Bookings can be made online or by calling 4961 9387.
Classes are suspended during December and January, and will return in February 2019.

eSmart Libraries is a cyber safety framework designed to fully equip libraries, staff and library users with the skills they need for smart, safe and responsible use of digital technology.
We demonstrate eSmart practices by embedding cyber safety and online wellbeing into library programs and service delivery. Our members can learn appropriate skills to use digital technologies
confidently and safely, to get the best out of digital technology and avoid cyber-risks through:
- attending our ‘Discover IT classes’
- visiting mackay.qld.gov.au/eSmart
- engaging with us on social media
- accessing our Tech Talk program.
eSmart helps reduce the digital divide by empowering staff and users to increase knowledge and skills to navigate the online world in a safe, smart and responsible way.
