Dear Resurrection Family and Friends,

At Church of the Resurrection, we endeavor to live out our mission “to know Christ and make Him known.” One of the primary ways we live out this mission is by showing the love of Christ to the world through our FaithWorks ministry. In FaithWorks we seek to serve the poor, homeless, hungry, and vulnerable in the Baltimore area. FaithWorks is already connected with a number of ministries that work in the areas of addiction, food shortages, and woman in crisis and it has been our goal to offer at least one way to serve every month.

This October, we are launching a new initiative for our church. Partnering with our good friends at Apostles in the City, we will be running a Winter Warm Up coat and outerwear drive. Beginning this Sunday and running through the month of October, we are collecting new or like-new coats, gloves, hats, mittens and scarves to be distributed to school children in the Baltimore city community where Apostles is located. Sizes youth to small adult. Please be mindful that we prefer not to send really worn down items, so if it is new or in good condition, we'll take it. There will be boxes in the education trailer and in the fellowship hall for the month of October where people can drop off donations at any time.

You will hear more about this during announcement time on Sunday. We are very excited to have this opportunity to warm up and to bless those, mainly children, who would otherwise not have appropriate outerwear to withstand Baltimore winters.

Making Christ’s love known together,
~ David Pennylegion

This 5-week class will help us understand why we worship they way we do as Anglicans. Classes include looking at why we have liturgy, what the sacraments are and how to understand them, and the role of music in worship.

Jesus in his Jewish context – The importance of recovering history: October 7 – 21, led by Angela Ney
This 3-week class will help us gain a better understanding of Jesus’s life and teaching as we explore his Jewish roots and his cultural context.

Making Disciples of Jesus: October 28 – November 11, led by Jim DiRaddo
This 3-week class will explore Jesus’s call for his disciples to make disciples of others. We will see how we can grow as disciples and the how and why of making disciples of others.

Monthly Dinner

At Jacob’s Well is a residential program for homeless people with some mental illness. Toward the end of each month, we provide a meal for them, but we are especially rewarded for being with them. Last month’s dinner was particularly touching. All the residents came for crabs, sat around the table, and chatted among themselves and with the volunteers. Thanks to all who made it a special evening.

Our next dinner is on Wednesday, October 24 at 323 E 25th St. in Baltimore. We start with a Eucharist service at 4:00 p.m., with dinner following at 5:00 p.m. Some of our members cook parts of the meal and others serve the meal. We need four servers. Food can be brought to AJW or to Edie’s or to church. This month is Halloween! Volunteers are welcome to come in the spirit of the day.

This month our contributions to the meal are:
Lasagna • Green salad • Desserts • Halloween treats  • Drinks • Ice

If you have questions or are interested in taking part, please sign up on the ResCommunity board, email Edie Townsend or call 443-621-3051.
