The apple harvest is near completion, the heat-loving fruit and veggies, like tomatoes, peppers, corn and melons are all but finished for the year. It is a sad goodbye but I’m thankful it’s not a forever end, just until next season. I love our four seasons, each one is beautiful in its own way, but fall is my favourite!

     October is here! Now is the time for cups of hot, spiced cider to wrap your hands around, apple and pumpkin treats of every kind, radiant fall colours and Thanksgiving feasts. It is a time to come together as families and celebrate the abundance, to appreciate our friends and families, to show our gratitude and most of all, to thank God, the Giver of all good gifts.

     We enjoyed our family Thanksgiving dinner last weekend, as this coming weekend is always rather busy for us. Dora Davison brought her famous baked stuffing and my girls confessed they have never made stuffing. I reason, being Nana has always brings it to every special family meal. Good news though, she showed me and now we are going to share it with you (and her granddaughters). It is the best ever, quite simple and even better because you can make it ahead of time.

     When I visit with people, they often say, “Things must slow down now.” I smile and reply, “Yes, in some ways.” But the truth is, we are very busy right to the end of October. The harvest may slow down as it is nearing completion, but we have a lot of produce picked and packed for you, lots of cleanup to do in the orchards and a pumpkin patch that is glowing orange and waiting for people of all ages to come and enjoy. The Family Pumpkin Fest kicks off this weekend and runs every weekend throughout the month. Tessa, our pumpkin princess, will be here too, greeting your little ones with a magical smile. Apple tasting is the best right now with ten different varieties to try! Come and celebrate autumn with friends and family and slow down enough to enjoy the fall beauty around us. And don’t forget to show your gratitude to those you love, I need the reminder too!
