Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

Today is World Mental Health Awareness Day.  As we continue to do our best to uphold the values of National Bullying Prevention Month, as we work towards Unity Day where we come together in appreciation of all people, let’s be especially mindful of those affected by mental illness.  Schools in particular have seen a dramatic increase in anxiety, depression, and self-harm in students.  Research shows that kids today feel tremendous pressure and how we cultivate a genuine culture of acceptance, kindness, and learning from our failures is critical. When we truly live our call from Jesus to love each other unconditionally as we would want to be loved and when we practice forgiveness, that culture can flourish.  For more resources on mental health awareness, check out the National Alliance on Mental Illness at nami.org.

We pray for our 7th graders this week as they are off on retreat.  The focus of the retreat is balance, which we all know can be hard to find at times.  As they enjoy this time off campus, let’s keep them in our prayers and wish them all the best as they strengthen their relationships with each other and themselves.

As good resources come to me, I love to pass them on.  In honor of World Mental Health Awareness, check out these great articles:
Please note that today is the LAST day for basketball registration for grades 4-8.  No late registrations will be accepted.  Please see CYO section below regarding assessments.

Enjoy the Friday off!

Best,
Kathleen Conklin

 LOST AND FOUND REMINDERS:
The Lost and Found bin is located in the main building next to the girls' restroom. Jewelry, watches, and other small valuables should be claimed at the school office. Items in the lost & found are sorted weekly. Every effort is made to return CLEARLY LABELED items to their owners. Any items unclaimed a week plus will be given to charity or uniform donation. Be sure to clearly label clothing, school supplies, and other personal belongings with your child’s name and grade. Please note permanent ink fades with time due to continued washing/drying so please check your labels periodically and update if needed. Thanks for your assistance in this process. Any questions, please contact Debbie Dreis or 206 331-0268

Basketball Assessments for Middle School Students

In middle school, basketball teams are split into varsity and junior varsity divisions. This requires an assessment process that allows assessors to determine the best fit for each player.  Assessments will be held on Monday, October 15, and Tuesday, October 16 and Monday, October 22 and Tuesday, October 23.  In order to be eligible for the varsity team, students need to attend at least one of the assessment nights, and two would be preferred.  The assessors will be looking at a wide variety of the skills including, ball handling, passing, shooting and court awareness.  This process is designed to place each student on the team that will allow them to have the most success during the basketball season and we strive to create an environment that is low stress and lots of fun. Parents and coaches are not allowed in the gym to watch the assessments.  Please see our Athletic Handbook here regarding assessments and policies on page 12.

It's time to apply for PreK & Kindergarten!

Are you a current ASB family with a 4-or-5-year-old at home? Current school families have priority enrollment, but we do need a completed application for each student who will be new to ASB in PreK or Kindergarten.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR CURRENT FAMILIES:
  • If you are a current ASB family applying for PreK or Kindergarten, you do NOT need to complete a Parish Reflection Form along with your application. Unless you have recently joined one of our parishes, have one on file for your family from Spring 2018. You will be required to complete the Parish Reflection Form each spring, as part of Registration. Questions? Please email me.
  • If your child is a current ASB PreK student moving onto Kindergarten here at ASB, you do NOT need to complete an application.
Completed applications should turned into Admissions Director Kelley Kane, ideally prior to the 10/25 Open House.

Do you have a preschooler attending somewhere other than ASB?

We need help reaching out to local preschools about our Open House events. If you are able to deliver marketing materials to your child's preschool (posters and fliers), please email email Admissions Director Kelley Kane.

Invite a friend to our Open House!

Remember, ASB offers a generous Referral Incentive Bonus!
For every new family that enrolls and lists you as the referring family on their original application, you are eligible to receive one month's tuition credit, as a thank you from ASB! Please click the link above for details.

I am still looking for Parent Ambassadors to help during the Open House events, from 8:30am - 10:30am on 10/25, 11/14 and/or 1/31/19. These are hugely impactful ways to get your volunteer hours in! Please email Admissions Director Kelley Kane if you can help. Thank you!

On Friday, October 12, ASB School is closed for a faculty in-service.  Extended Care will also be CLOSED on this day as some members of the Extended Care staff will be participating in the in-service.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

As we enter the season of Fall and the days begin to get shorter, Extended Care will start locking the doors to our facility earlier in the afternoon.  As we do throughout every Fall and Winter, we will start to lock the doors to our facility around 4:15-4:30 pm.  We do this to ensure the safety of everyone in our program.  If you find that the doors are locked upon your arrival to Extended Care, please ring the doorbell or knock on the door and one of our staff members will be with you shortly to answer the door.  Thank you for understanding and thank you for helping to keep ASB Extended Care safe.
If you have any questions about Extended Care, please do not hesitate to contact Dylan Pouley or Kai Bond we are happy to assist you in whatever way that we can.  If you email extended@asbschool.org that email account will forward your email to both Kai and Dylan.

Extended Care reminders:
  • Extended Care opens each morning at 7:00am.
  • Extended Care closes at 5:45pm each afternoon.
  • There is NO EXTENDED CARE on October 12, 2018
  • Please turn in your Extended Care registration forms for the 2018-2019 School year.
