Remember if you know of someone interested in becoming a cadet please let them know that it is not too late to enroll in the current recruit course. Please also note that this year we will now be sending out a newsletter on a two-week cycle instead of each and every week.

The Squadron’s New Training Facility

Chadburn squadron is now up and running for our 76th year and as usual, there are a number of important changes. The first of which is the fact that our squadron training is now back at the school, which has been renamed to Village Union School (located on Gibb Street). Cadets now enter the school from the “South” door on the “East” side of the building instead of the West Side entrance. The school normally keeps these doors locked once the cadets enter. Visitors coming to the school after the squadron parade has started must remember that unless the squadron has arranged for someone to be there they will likely have difficulty in gaining entry.

New Email Template

As you may have noticed, we are now using MailChimp to send our newsletters. MailChimp provides a friendlier user interface and allows us to track how the squadron’s information is being received.

If you like the new format or have any advice that you would like to share, please send us an email.

The Squadron's New Pilots

Here are our new pilots along with their ground school instructor Andrew Leslie, the Chief Flying Officer at the Canadian Flight Academy. We would also like to thank the Academy for allowing our cadets to train at their facility.

We have already mentioned the tremendous success of the squadron’s summer camp program with more cadets attending camp than at any time in the squadron’s history. This was trumped by the squadron successfully graduating two glider pilots and one power pilot this summer. The photo above features these pilots as well as our Warrant Officer who received her glider wings last year.

Message from the Commanding Officer

With our Tagging weekend completed, I am happy to report the results were very impressive and the event was a success. This year we had three cadets that raised over $1,000.00 each. This is an incredible achievement but it requires the dedication, initiative, and endurance of very focused and enthusiastic taggers.

 Well done to those cadets!

On the other side of the coin, we have cadets that did not participate at all or opted out of their shifts at the last moment. This puts a strain on the remaining cadets and the staff that now have to adjust the schedule and make up for that vacancy.

Doesn’t seem fair, does
it? In any event, I would like to thank our staff who manned their posts for the four days to make this event as successful as it was. Our Warrant Officers spent many long hours phoning and verifying information with cadets and parents. They did a fantastic job. A special thanks to Mrs. Bone for tirelessly searching out locations and arranging permissions, and to Mr. Lloyd for operating as “Mission Control” during the event. Captain Bliss was the Officer in Charge and worked very closely with all staff and cadets to coordinate this success.

The cadets are very fortunate to have such a dedicated staff working endless hours to provide for them.

Looking forward, please pay close attention to our calendar and to the announcements made every Monday evening. We have parades, flying, field exercises, orienteering competitions, sports nights, shooting competitions and a Tri-Service Christmas ball all coming up in the next couple of months.

A sure road to success in this Squadron is participation and with the squadron operating five to six times a week,
there should be no excuse for any cadet not to stay occupied and have fun.

Have a great week and a Happy Thanksgiving.

Major B. Weigel
