Dear <<First Name>>,

With the dark evenings creeping in we'll be organising a distribution of free bicycle lights in the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye on social media for further details!

We won't be having a monthly public meeting in October. This is to allow our new committee, elected at our recent AGM, to meet up and plan the campaign activities for the coming months.  If you live in the Dun Laoghaire area, then drop in to the first meeting, on the 10 October, of a new cycling advocacy group for the area.

The next Liffey Cycle will take place at 11am on 14 October. Join us for a family-friendly cycle to highlight the need for a safe, segregated Liffey cycle route!

Happy Cycling!

Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown Cycling Advocacy Group

The first meeting of a new advocacy group that will focus on cycling issues in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown will be held in the DLR Lexicon library at 18:30 on Wednesday 10th of October. This group will meet each month with a focus on holding workshops that are engaging and hands-on to shape the future of cycling in DLR. AGM 2018 & 25th Birthday

Dublin Cycling Campaign is getting stronger and making a real impact. That was one of the core messages garnered at our action-packed AGM held on Saturday 15th of September in The Tailors’ Hall, Christchurch. The well attended meeting attracted familiar and new faces, all of whom have been energised by the Campaign’s work over the last 12 months.

Dr. Paul Corcoran has been elected for a further year at the helm (thanks Paul!) and joining him as now as Vice Chairperson is Dimi Kirova, who has a wealth of experience in the NGO(Non-governmental Organisation) and business sectors. We thanked Muireann O’Dea for her sterling work over the last few years as DCC Vice-Chair as she stepped down. Colm Ryder and Paschal Comerford were re-elected as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. More...

VegFest Bike Valet Parking

The Dublin Cycling Campaign were at Dublin VegFest on 22 & 23 September last providing valet bike parking. 106 people left their bikes with us over the two days in what was a well received service. Our 13 volunteers got to talk to cyclists and promote the campaign and we even got some new members. We also got to admire some really nice bikes too!
The cyclists simply came to our stand which was at the entrance to VegFest, gave us their names and phones numbers and we gave them a ticket and took their bike. Very simple and very effective. Cyclists didn't have to spend time looking for somewhere to lock their bikes, knew their bikes would be safe and even got their tyres pumped and a puncture fixed (thanks Brendan)
Dublin City Council funded the equipment and we agreed to report back to them after the event. The goal is to encourage event organisers to provide bike parking at events so if you know of any events that would like try our service please contact Vinnie Meyler (vinniemeyler@gmail.com) , Kieran Ryan (kieranpryan@hotmail.com) or Colm Walsh (colm@yogadublin.com)

Liffey Cycle Sunday 14 October

Our monthly Liffey Cycle protests keep on keeping on! Join us for our October protest cycle along the Liffey Quays as we call for the Liffey Cycle Route to be implemented as soon as possible. This family-friendly group cycle is marshalled by Dublin Cycling Campaign volunteers to create a safe cycling environment - arguably the only time every month that it’s safe to cycle on the Liffey Quays! Meet in Grand Canal Square on Sunday 14th October for an 11am start. Bring your friends! More details here.

#Allocate4Cycling Campaign Launch

Cyclist.ie launched the #Allocate4Cycling campaign on the 20th September In Buswell's Hotel. This followed on from a detailed pre-budget submission made in August. In recent years funding for cycling has actually declined, despite the growth in cycling numbers.  This campaign has a simple ask: that 10% of the land transport budget is allocated to cycling, so that the Government target of 10% of trips by bike by 2020 can be met.  The campaign launch was well attended with representatives from Fianna Fail, the Labour Party, People Before Profit, the Green Party and the Social Democrats, all of whom expressed support for the campaign.

We will be keeping a close eye on the budget next week to see if there is any significant increase in funding for cycling. The campaign will continue in the coming year to ensure funding for cycling is a General Election issue.

DCC Submission on Bus Connects

Dublin Cycling Campaign made a detailed submission on the Bus Connects proposals. We welcomed the proposed bus network redesign and encourage it’s implementation with detailed consideration of the needs of cyclists. Safe and segregated cycling infrastructure is promised as part of the rollout of Bus Connects. However, we have concerns. Many roads across Dublin will see large increases in the number of buses but at present there isn’t an appropriate level safe cycle infrastructure to ensure the safety of people on bikes. More...
