Welcome New SSA Board Members

 
Softball SA welcomes its new board members Kim Evans and Daniella Di Girolamo who were appointed by the Softball SA board following the 2018 SSA AGM held in September.

Kim has 15 years of legal experience as a senior lawyer in the not for profit sector, with a substantial experience in broad range of commercial and legal aspects regarding corporate bodies. Kim has also had 20 years of experience at the coalface of sports management, at local, state and nantional levels.

Daniella, a barrister, has 10 years of legal experience across a variety of practice areas, as well as in sport with Rugby Union SA and the SANFL Equal Goals Pathway Program. Daniella is currently a board member of Motor Neurone Disease (SA), as well as thei audit and risk committee.

Current board members Andrea Collett and Karyn Dale were also re-elected to the SSA Board, after successfully being voted back in at the 2018 AGM. 

Softball SA passes on their congratulations to their returning board members and a very warm welcome to Kim and Daniella.

23rd Tournament Success

 
The 2018 Labour Day Tournament was played over the October long weekend for the annual event's 23rd consecutive year. 

A total of 26 teams participated at the West Beach facility, with 11 teams visiting from the Northern Territory and Victoria. 

Softball SA thanks Tournament Convenor Peter Messner and Tournament Chief Umpire Mike Bendall for their efforts in organising another successful year of tournament play.

Dale's 800th Game

 
Walkerville Softball Club's Karyn Dale will step on to the diamond for the 800th time in her softball career for the opening round of the 2018-19 season.

Over the course of her career played in seven A grade and seven B grade grand finals, is a former Walkerville Softball Club president, has won the B grade Best and Fairest Award three times and represented South Australia on multiple occasions as both a player and official.

Whilst she has announced her retirement from playing several times previous, Dale, who is also a Softball SA Board member, intends to continue playing, with the possibility of perhaps reaching 900!

YOUNG
NAMED STARZ HEAD COACH


Softball SA have filled the role of the top job in the State, the Head Coach of the SA Starz, the South Australian Womens Softball team. The Starz will battle for the National Championship, the Gilley’s Shield, in January 2019.
 

The newly appointed coach is Morgan Young, a former junior national player and a previous assistant coach of the Starz team.


Young, a local A-Grade coach, was appointed due to already having a working relationship with the team and for his numerous accomplishments in sport. He will now turn his attention to putting together the strongest line-up possible of players eligible to represent the state.

2018 SCORING PROGRAMS

Want to gain you Level 1 scoring accreditation, gain your next Levels or undertake the latest iScore training?

Basic training courses for Level 1 and accreditation courses for Levels 2, 3, 4 and iScore are being held at Softball SA headquarters from October-December 2018.

Should your club or association wish to host their own training night with appropriate number requirements.

Please note: iScore requires you to supply your own device for participation.

SA's McCauley Officiates in Europe


Softball SA congratulates South Australian umpire Damien McCauley on his recent appointment in to officiate in both the the 2018 Men's Intercontinental Softball Cup and the 2018 Men's European Super Cup. 

The 2017-18 Softball SA Umpire of the Year traveled to Prague, Czech Republic, at the end of August to officiate both tournaments.

Congratulations Damien on your achievements.
 
 
2019 Nationals Umpires Announced

Seven South Australian umpires have been appointed to officiate at National Championships for 2019. 

Softball Australia announced the appointments earlier this month on the Softball Australia Umpires social media page, along with the full list of umpires who have been appointed umpires from around the country.

2019 Jnr State Championships Date Announced

 
The dates of the 2019 Junior State Championships were officially announced at the 2018 Softball SA AGM in September.

The Riverland Softball Association the tournament at the association's Alan Glassey Park complex, in Berri, over the March long weekend - March 9-11 2019.  

The Riverland Softball Association annually hosts the Riverland Masters tournament and last hosted the Junior State Championships in 2004.  

Applications to host the 2020 Junior State Championships are now declared open; please submit your association's interest in writing to Softball SA, as well as a letter of support to accompany the application.

Softball SA wishes the Riverland Softball Association all the best for a successful and enjoyable event for everyone involved.
