Preta, a subsidiary of EBA Clearing, has brought 40 bank and tech firms on board for Open Banking Europe. The initiative focuses on regulatory concerns regarding interoperability of bank data-sharing initiatives under the regulation. Read More
Singapore rolls out digital trade platform, biggest shipper goes digital with IBM
Singapore’s government launched the Networked Trade Platform, where the entire trade ecosystem can do business. The government also has agreements with China Customs and other national agencies to build international connectivity. Additionally this week, Singapore’s biggest shipper partnered with IBM to digitise bills of lading using blockchain.
ECB may need to expand instant payments role, US Fed seeks faster-payments assistance
ECB board member Yves Mersch noted that the continent needed a broad, cheap and instant retail payment system to keep foreign competitors from conquering the market. Here, the ECB may need to step in. On the other side of the pond, the US’s Federal Reserve is seeking feedback from public stakeholders on how it can bring its goal of real-time gross settlement of faster payments into reality.

Petal, a US-based fintech making a no-fee credit card, secured USD 34 million in a round from Jefferies and Silicon Valley Bank.
Kooltra, a Canada-based company helping financial institutions and non-banks modernise and automate foreign exchange operations, raised CAD 6.5 million in a funding round that included Hyde Park venture Partners and Round 13 Capital.
Tima, a Vietnam-based P2P lending start-up, secured USD 3 million in a Series B round from Belt Road Capital.
