This has always been our favourite time of the year. Mother Nature is gifting us with another week of beautiful weather, making this the perfect time to start your fall garden clean-up. Annuals can be removed and many perennials can be cut back. Some perennials such as Black-eyed Susans and Coneflowers can be left standing in order to provide some much appreciated seeds for the birds through those cold winter months. Many ornamental grasses can withstand heavy snowloads as well. Give us a call to discuss which ones are sturdier than others.
When cleaning up your outdoor containers, cut back the plants from your summer containers or fall Mums and use that root system as a base for a winter container.
I always want to hit the ground running in the spring, so prefer doing all the heavier work in the fall. By topdressing your gardens with compost now, not only are you providing an excellent source of food to your plants, but you are doing it in the easiest way possible. The worms will take care of blending the compost into soil for you, making it accessible to the plant's root system.
It's also an excellent time to add plants to your gardens and transplant existing ones. All of our in-stock nursery stock is now discounted; including perennials at 50%-70%, shrubs at 30 - 50% and deciduous trees at 30%.
As a special treat, we will have a few fresh floral arrangements available for sale this weekend. Quantities are limited so stop by early. As always, we will have some beautiful plant arrangements ready to brighten the Thanksgiving table.
