Local Foods, Local Places Action Plan Launch
October 9, 2018 3-6pm
Downtown Farmington HQ 116 W. Main Street

In June, 2018 the community of San Juan County  participated in the Local Foods, Local Places Conference.  From the conference, the steering committee has created a community action plan about the  local food system and ways for the community to move forward.  They will be presenting their action plan on Tuesday October 9 from 3-6pm at Downtown HQ, located at 116 West Main Street.   The free come and go event will highlight the four main categories within the community action plan and opportunities for participation. This event is a great opportunity for collaboration and community unity, and farmers, restaurant owners, local grocers and interested parties are all encouraged to come!
Judy Castleberry from San Juan College will also be discussing the details of our first actionable victory, a grant for over $500,000 for San Juan College to develop a food hub, called The Harvest, in Farmington .  Learn more about these exciting plans on October 9!

Local Harvest Dinner Tickets Available HERE
The market may run through October 27th, but we at the Farmington Growers Market want to celebrate our season with you before the winter harvest freezes! Join the 2018 Market of the Year as we celebrate our first ever community Harvest Dinner! In an evening of great food prepared by Chef Jesse at 3 Rivers Brewery and the culinary students in Eddie Gurrola's program at the Career and Technology Education Center, live music, and even a live auction, we'll celebrate a successful harvest season together, hearing stories from some of our featured vendors as they share how they got to where they are today. "Know your farmer--know your food" is the market motto this season, and we're committed to bringing fresh, local foods into even MORE homes in our community in the coming year, and supporting as many of our neighborhood vendors as possible. You can help us make that possible! Join us in this evening sponsored in part by Citizens Bank, 3 Rivers Brewery, and the CATE Center's Court Street Catering program.

Our Harvest Dinner will take place Saturday evening, October 20th, from 4-6PM on the back patio of the Farmington Museum, 2041 E. Main St., Farmington, New Mexico, 87402.

This is a ticketed event. Tickets are $25 per person and include the entire evening's festivities, including dinner at a buffet-style burger meal with sides, drinks, and desserts. San Juan Soil & Water Conservation District
is working hard to update the Resources page on our website to better serve our community.

http://www.sanjuanswcd.com/resources/
We have updated this webpage to include answers to many of the questions we hear in our office on a regular basis. Where can I find assistance for conservation projects on my land? Which organizations in San Juan County influence and manage the water supply? How do I find out about my water rights or learn more about irrigation ditches and acequias? How can I get involved and learn more? Interest in these questions has increased as the drought has intensified this summer and there is less water in the river than most people have seen in their lifetimes. We have also updated our Water page to include quick links to the USGS gages that monitor flow in the rivers, as well as the Office of the State Engineer which measures flow in all the ditches.

Have a question related to conservation, soil, or water that isn’t answered on this page?      Let us know!     We want this to be your one-stop shop for conservation information

Please click THIS LINK to take a survey regarding the potential for growing guar in the Southwest.
The survey attached is to help us assess the needs for education and outreach of bio-economies and guar production for producers in the Southwest. The survey will be used to help inform the projects team of the needs producers face in the Southwest. All surveys responses are anonymous and the survey does not ask any personal questions. The survey takes about ten minutes to finish and can either be taken online or printed out and dropped off at the NMSU San Juan County Extension Office. We appreciate your willingness to participate.
