Lift your voice—your heart will follow!
Feeling good lately? I hope all of us are, and I believe choral singing helps. Studies have found that it gives you healthy energy and makes you smarter and nicer, so keep up the good work!

While we are working hard, we've had a lot of absences. As I've stressed, let me know if you must miss a rehearsal, and be sure to read through your music before the next one. Not only are you minus the group practice and conductor's instructions, much is simply lost over a two-week period away from the music.

Men, please use this weekend to memorize "Ride the Chariot." We'll do it without music on Tuesday!

All, be mindful of your diction,  especially on the folk songs. And think high... higher... yes, that high.

Binder check. See Audrey McNally for binder inserts for the octavos (booklets);  please take only what you need. this week we will sing most of the music in concert order:

Kumbaya
The Road Home
Shall We Gather at the River
Simple Gifts
To My Old Brown Earth
(Chamber Singers)
Hark! I Hear the Harps Eternal
How Can I Keep from Singing
Hard Times
(women)
Americana Medley
Ride the Chariot
(men)
There is a Balm
My Good Lord's Done Been Here
Swing Low Sweet Chariot
Soon Ah Will Be Done
Folk Song Medley
(She'll Be Coming / This Train / Swing Low / When the Saints)
Freedom Trilogy

Notes from across the street
  • Want another chance to sing during the week? See me about singing with the St. James' Episcopal Church choir; we meet on Thursday evenings.
  • William Feasley, a classical guitarist from Washington, DC, will perform a program focusing on music and art in the life of Spanish painter Francisco Goya at St. James on Sunday, October 14, at 4:00 p.m. Click for more info.

Kip
