Greetings and happy May,

As the spring brings new warmth, new growth, and a good measure of new optimism into all our lives, now is an important time to take account of our blessings and to be grateful for the changing of the season. For many of us, this will mean more time out of doors, increased physical activity, and turning in our snow shovels for a spade to turn the soil.

New growth is something that Sustainable Belmont is also looking for and as Town Day approaches and we imagine adding to our membership, we are examining the future of the group and asking what we want to offer the community. The process of imagining the future you want is a powerful and important exercise. And, you are far more likely to move forward if you have imagined the future you desire beforehand and design intelligently toward it.

That is the message of the video that is at the heart of the May Sustainable Belmont monthly meeting. The video entitled “in Transition 1.0 “ is described as:

“ … the first detailed film about the Transition movement filmed by those that know it best, those who are making it happen on the ground. The Transition movement is about communities around the world responding to peak oil and climate change with creativity, imagination and humor, and setting about rebuilding their local economies and communities. It is positive, solutions focused, viral and fun. “

The film is about what is possible when communities come together in common purpose with a shared vision. We hope you will join us to watch the video and to help formulate our own shared vision of the future. We ask that you do a bit of homework ahead of time. Please take ten minutes to imagine the Belmont you would like to live in ten years from now. Write down three things that you hope will be the hallmarks of our environmental foundation for our community.
