Message from the PTA

Good morning everyone!

We have had so much fun kicking off the school year with a lot of great back-to-school events and community gatherings.  Grade level socials, the Dolphin Dash, and supporting our students’ fall fundraisers at the Farmers Market are all wonderful examples of how we are in full swing as a school community.  The NDE Dolphin spirit is strong and we plan to keep it going!

A new community gathering we are kicking off this year is the monthly Together Tuesday event, which is happening at NDE this Tuesday, October 9.  The Taco Shop food truck and Kona Ice will be on campus from 5pm-7pm.  We encourage all of you to come out to eat dinner and enjoy time with school friends and families.  You are welcome to bring your own food from home or pick up something from the food trucks.  Plan to bring the whole family and come join us for a fun evening outside at NDE!

Our next general PTA meeting is next Tuesday, October 16 at 6:30pm.  Our School Counselors will be the highlighted presenters this month, and a few of the Davis School Board candidates plan to stop by to introduce themselves and answer your questions toward the end of the meeting.  Also, don’t forget that we now provide FREE childcare for NDE students.  Sign up here to reserve your spot!

I hope you have a great week and we look forward to seeing you for our Together Tuesday at NDE this week!

Best always,
Brenna

School Counseling Corner

Save the Date!
School counseling is presenting at the October PTA meeting on Tuesday, October 16th, 6:30pm in the MPR.
Hope to see you there!
FREE Childcare

Calling all 6th Grade Parents!

Thank you everyone for manning the carousel this past week! We still need some help for the last Davis Farmers Market carousel fund-raising day this Wednesday October 10th - 4:30pm to sunset (about 8:00pm)

Please respond as soon as you can! The length of each shift depends on the number of parent volunteers that sign-up. The more, the better (and shorter shifts)!

The Walker Creek scholarships help students every year to ensure that they don't miss out on the annual trip. Fundraising efforts by last year's 6th graders contributed to the current scholarship amounts we have, but we still need to cap off the scholarships for our students attending this year!

Please fill out the sign-up sheet (link below), even if you can only dedicate 1 hour to one of these dates! Your contribution will be sincerely appreciated by students and families in our NDE community.

Fitness Corner

The Kids in Motion Fitness programming offered this year include: Jump Rope Club, T/K and Kindergarten fitness, Primary fitness, Intermediate fitness (including fencing), and 6th grade cross-age mentoring (with 1st grade. This week my focus is on Primary Fitness.

The Primary (grades 1-3) Fitness programming occurs on Fridays. First grade sessions run throughout the morning as part of their Friday rotations.

These sessions are 30 minutes in length and work with the equivalent of one class at a time. Students are divided into three groups and rotate through three activity stations. This year, PTA has funded my time to assist with the first grade sessions, supervising 6th grade student leaders at one of the activity stations. Second and third grades each come out as an entire grade level. These sessions run 45-60 minutes in length. Students are divided into six groups and rotate through six activities.

The Primary Fitness program requires enough adult/parent volunteers to be able to run all activities each week (at least one adult per station). A big thanks to all the parent/adult volunteers that have already signed up to help!

The curriculum is organized into 10 three-week rotations, with each week building from the last and leading to the next. Over the course of the year, students are exposed to 30+ (1st  grade) – 60+ (2nd and 3rd grades) different activities with two to three different variations for each activity. These activities include those that raise the heart rate (cardio-respiratory endurance), improve flexibility, muscle strength, and balance, as well as those that focus on coordination and tumbling skills, and finally those that focus on sports-related skills (eye-hand and eye-foot coordination).

Thus far, students have enjoyed the following activities and games:

Over, Under, and Through on the large play structure; individual jump rope skills; Up and Over (ready position/tossing/catching); underhand tossing/catching with bean bags; hula hooping; Everybody’s It Tag; Shipwreck (call and response activity); Hot Lava Monster (upper body strength building game); long rope jump rope skills; wall ball/hand ball skills; Crazy Cones; a variety of soccer skills; Switch (a game that teaches getting out graciously).

POPS Choir Update

So sorry for the cancellation last Friday. The district scheduled to spray for bugs that day.

All POPS Choirs members should come to choir on Tuesday, and hand in their favorites list this week, along with enrollment forms (if you haven’t yet turned in yours).

Friday after school practice is required this week, if possible, because with last week’s cancellation, not attending this week would mean three weeks away from choir.

Keep listening and singing!
Thanks, Mindy
Don't Miss it!
