Midnight Feast is a bold initiative that enables artists who experience significant physical, intellectual and emotional challenges to participate in the performing arts. We celebrate abilities not limitations. Our theatre explores humanity in all its diversity and challenges assumptions.

A MESSAGE FROM KYLIE HARRIS

The countdown is on for our show in the Big White House... rehearsals are full steam ahead! We are bending over with laughter as our script moves from page to stage.

It is a privilege to be creating opportunities for people who have been overlooked or simply fallen through the cracks of our society.

I was reminded this as I asked a beautiful visitor of the Wayside Chapel if she would be so kind as to perform our Welcome to Country for our very special Marginalised Community Outreach Performance on Friday the 30th at 2pm. She cried with joy at the opportunity proclaiming she’d never even been inside the Opera House! That, my friends is what it’s all for...

FIGHTING CHANCE BALL

On Saturday 20th of October, Midnight Feast performed at the superb 10th Fighting Chance Annual Dinner. As lightening streaked the sky, guests ventured down the rabbit hole to the Mad Hatters Tea Party, meeting rock punk jabberwockies, a pair of psychedelic caterpillars, the majestic queen of hearts, a delayed white rabbit and our whimsical Alice,  all while being swooped by a chattering of squawking cockatoos! John Farnham 2.0 returned for another farewell performance, and Elvis, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson all made an appearance before dinner had even begun!

Duncan Penny (James Penny), who always wears his heart on his sleeve, misplaced his heart (Brianna Harris) as dinner was served, and wooed the audience as he tried to control his heart through a moving performance to the aptly chosen song A Heart Without a Home. Oliver House narrated his very own Australian play My Mother and the Cockatoos as the Midnight Feast Professional and Inclusive Ensembles came together to transform the University of Sydney MacLaurin Hall into the quintessential Australian veranda. Midnight Feast’s performances for the evening culminated in a return of Duncan Penny when his heart, having gone too far, had to revive him in the centre of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

Fighting Chance are an EPIC company designing, building and scaling social enterprises which move the dial for Australians with disability and their families, and provide these services to many in the Midnight Feast Company. Their mission is to ask ‘what if’, to see the world as it isn’t yet, to imagine a future quite different to the present, and then they make it happen! We were so honoured and proud to support Fighting Chance at their 10th Annual dinner and can’t wait to see what the next 10 years will bring!

INTRODUCING
JESS PENNY

Jess is most famous for being the little sister of Midnight Feast Performer and Assistant Director, James Penny. She is second most famous (in the Midnight Feast circles) for coming on board as Midnight Feast’s Associate Producer. She has been working with Kylie to get all the logistics arranged so Midnight Feast can continue growing and spreading its wings. She has spent the last 6 years working in both independent and commercial theatre and logistics make her froth. Her most recent commercial credit is working on Opera Australia’s My Fair Lady. She's about to commence her final semester of her Masters of Secondary Teaching, and in her spare time she takes groups of teenagers on expeditions around the world. She loves working with Midnight Feast and cannot wait to get everyone over to Edinburgh next year!
