Second Harvest Heartland is working to end hunger through community partnerships.

Second Harvest Heartland is deeply concerned about the impact of changes to how the federal government interprets the use of safety net programs, such as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), by immigrant families with legal status because it will directly result in increased pressure on the emergency food system and fear that immigrant families will choose not to seek the food support they need for themselves and their children.

Pictured above is Annandale Food Shelf's waiting area. This food shelf offers a NAPS program and in addition to their monthly commodity box, participants choose from a wide-variety of items including fresh produce. Many of these items come from Annandale's robust food rescue relationships. This year to date, they have served nearly 1,000 individuals a month at the food shelf and about 15% of them are seniors.
