Waco 70.3 Spotlight: Sighted Guide and Volunteer - Heidi Bock
Tell us a few details about you and your story.
I didn’t know that I had a story, haha.  I’m a wife and mom of two who loves to run and travel.  I’m also a Girl Scout troop leader, substitute teacher, and student aspiring to become a physical therapy assistant.

How did you discover and get involved with Team Catapult?
I had the privilege of being paired with the lovely Alma Faz (who is also doing Waco 70.3) during the 2017 Aramco Houston Half Marathon.  She told me all about Catapult, and I showed up to my first workout the next week.

What is your current role with Catapult?
Catapult Guide and Volunteer.  From running to driving to being a sherpa, I do what I can to help out.

Is this your first 70.3 (half iron-distance triathlon)?
Yes! Two CB&I Sprint Triathlons, and straight into Waco 70.3.

What has been your most motivating moment?
It was a hot summer and I kept putting off sitting on a bike trainer in a garage that felt more like a furnace.  One Sunday morning in July, I acted as a handler at the Cypress Triathlon.  After watching 8 Catapult athletes cross the finish line that morning, I went home and got in a 2 hour workout on the bike.  I probably visualized those 8 athletes finishing for the entire 2 hours.

What is your funniest Catapult story?
This one time I was guiding (Alex) during a cross country run, and he decided to jump a ditch without telling me he was going to jump.  He jumped, didn’t make it and ended up in the ditch, and the tether snapped and hit me in the face.  He was laughing hysterically, and I was so mad.  Looking back now it was funny, but I’m pretty sure I laid down some mean mom lectures on him for the rest of the race.

What was your first impression of Team Catapult? Has that changed?
Team Catapult to me can be described by many facets- happiness, inclusion, selflessness, motivation, relentlessness, and friendship.

Favorite (motivational) quote:
“One mountain at a time.  One lap at a time.  No matter how many laps it takes, just keep taking the next step and the next step and the next step.” -
Nicki Koziarz

2019 CATAPULT Gala, Benefiting Team CATAPULT

CATAPULT kindly requests your attendance at the 2019 CATAPULT Gala to be held on Friday, January 18, 2019, at The Astorian near Downtown Houston.  CATAPULT relies on several key partnerships to help achieve its mission goals, and the funds raised during the gala is the driving force behind annual events, training, scholarships, education, and community outreach programs.

Like last year, our gala will be the same weekend as the Houston Marathon with a similar schedule on Friday evening. In 2018 we were able to raise more than $130,000 gross funds for the organization with the help of partners, sponsors and friends like you. The money raised funded 100% of the organization’s events for 2018 and beyond, assisting athletes in reaching the finish line of endurance events 100+ times (and counting), and providing a race push rim and multiple prosthetic running blades for athletes. Finally, CATAPULT awarded more than  $28,000 in grants to 50+ CATAPULT athletes in need.

We are looking forward to even greater success at this year’s celebration. Our gala will be at The Astorian and will offer amazing downtown views, first-class dining, an open bar, along with an inspiring program from those who benefit from CATAPULT the most.   The goal is to support more athletes in 2019, raise awareness, and honor our partners, supporters and cheerleaders who make CATAPULT’s achievements possible.

If you are interested in reserving a table or seat at this year's gala please email us today at hello@teamcatapult.org to learn about table options and donor levels.  Space is limited. We hope you can join us for this special evening.
