Invitations

News from your Network - The QICSS invites you to attend a meeting on November 12, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, during which Michelle Gauthier, Special Advisor of the Canadian Research Data Centre Network, will present the initiatives launched by the Network over the last two years, the research perspectives arising as a result, and the main strategies that will be implemented to better support researchers and promote their involvement within the Network. Conferences

The Research Group on Human Capital invites you to its conference "Recherches à partir de microdonnées: Survol des possibilités au Laboratoire de données de recherche de l'UQAM-INRS du CIQSS" on November 8th at UQAM's École des sciences de la gestion. Registration is free, but mandatory.

R à Québec 2019, an interdisciplinary symposium will bring together researchers, students, practitioners and professionals from academia and governments, as well as from the private sector. The symposium's organizing committee is currently collecting proposals for workshops and conferences.

Statistics Canada's 2018 International Methodology Symposium, "Combine to Conquer: Innovations in the Use of Multiple Sources of Data," will be held at the Sala San Marco Event and Conference Centre in Ottawa from November 6 to 9, 2018.

On the occasion of Statistics Canada's 100th anniversary, the Association for Canadian Studies and the Canadian Institute for Identity and Migration, in collaboration with Statistics Canada and the Vanier Institute of the Family, are organizing a conference entitled STATISTICS CANADA : 100 YEARS AND COUNTING, December 6-7, 2018. Publications
According to a recent study by the Institut de la statistique du Québec, university education in Quebec gives rise to a high wage premium. For men, the employment income of university graduates is 58% higher than that of college-vocational graduates. For women, this wage premium is 52%. This study was carried out at the QICSS and uses data from the 2016 Canadian Income Survey. 

Members of the Human Capital Research Group sign a collective text in La Presse + on big data access in Quebec.  

Awards
Arezoo Banihashem from Concordia University won one of six best poster presentation awards at the Canadian Research Data Center Network national conference. Her research focuses on labor market participation and the use of income support measures among low-skilled young Quebecers.

Opportunities

National Essay Challenge 
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is running the National Essay Challenge for graduate students in Canadian universities. The essay must be either an empirical research paper or an evidence-based policy paper.

Employment opportunity 
The Research Group on Human Capital is looking for a research professional to provide research assistance for microdata analyses on the intergenerational transmission of income.
