1. Spring 2019 Meeting: It's a Go!
Join us Friday, March 8 and Saturday March 9, 2019 at Vernier in Beaverton, Oregon. Saturday will be a joint meeting with the Oregon American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT).
2. Under-Representation Curriculum Project
The Under-Representation Curriculum Project is a collection of teaching resources and materials for education about equity and inclusion in STEM contexts. It has been assembled by a group of more than a dozen science educators, who have a variety of backgrounds and teaching contexts. The resources are designed to be modular and flexible, so that instructors can take things in small chunks, things that might be a good fit for their situation. The goal is to generate meaningful discussion of difficult, critical issues.

3. Job Announcement: UW Bothell
The Physics Department at University of Washington, Bothell, is in need of 1-2 part-time instructors to cover labs this upcoming winter and spring quarter of 2019. Our labs are active and instructor driven (students have no lab manuals!), so we are looking for instructors who are eager to engage and interact with their students and excited about active learning techniques. Aside from physics material, the labs also focus on communication; teamwork; using a scientific question to motivate measurements and interpret results; and learning from mistakes. 4. Job Announcement: University of Portland
The University of Portland invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Physics beginning August 15, 2019. Primary teaching responsibilities will consist of three courses per semester, including both lower and upper-division course offerings in physics. A Ph.D. in physics or closely related field, evidence of excellence in teaching physics, and the ability to establish an original, productive research program in the applicant’s area of specialization are required. The deadline for receipt of applications is November 30, 2018. Applicants should submit (1) a cover letter explaining interest in the position, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a statement of teaching experience and philosophy, and (4) a description of the research program the applicant plans to establish at the University of Portland, including a description of how undergraduates could be involved. If an applicant has experience and/or interest in diversity initiatives in higher education, please describe these in cover letter or teaching statement. All materials should be submitted at https://up.hiretouch.com/. In addition, applicants should ensure that three letters of reference are submitted via HireTouch before the application deadline. Questions may be directed to the chair of the search committee, Dr. Tamar More, at more@up.edu. A background investigation check and graduate and undergraduate transcripts will be required before final hiring procedures can be completed.
5. PNACP Annual Dues Letter
The annual dues letter will go out around the end of October/early November, so please let people know that this will be heading toward their department. The letter usually goes to department chairs but if members want the letter to go to someone else in their department they can contact Katie Devine at KDevine@collegeofidaho.edu to update the information.
