Interfaith Movement for
Immigrant Justice

Movimento Interfe para la Justicia del Inmigrante

Dear IMIrJ friends,

The Trump administration is proposing two new regulations that will hurt immigrants and their families.

One would allow for the indefinite detention of immigrant children. Another would force immigrants to make impossible choices between their health and well-being and their immigration status.

Both are unacceptable and inhumane. But neither are set in stone - yet.
The next few weeks are critical for us to voice our opposition to these cruel proposals.

You can submit individual comments online or via mail, organize a "comment day" at your faith community (we've got printable comment cards and sample messages to make it easy), and encourage your congregation or denomination to submit an organizational comment in opposition.

Scroll down to learn more, then take action to protect immigrant children, families and communities!

Best,
Your IMIrJ staff team
Sarah, Ron, Jimmy & Alyssa

#1. DEFEND FLORES
The Trump Administration has proposed new regulations to detain immigrant children at the border indefinitely and keep them in potentially unsafe conditions. Comments opposing and criticizing these rules are due by November 6, 2018. Learn more and add your comment today.
#2. PUBLIC CHARGE
“Public charge” is a term used in immigration law to refer to a person who is likely to become primarily dependent on the government to meet their basic needs. If someone is found to be a public charge, the government can deny admission to the U.S. or refuse an application for lawful permanent residency. Under the new proposed rule, the government now wants to redefine “public charge” more expansively, as an immigrant who receives one or more listed public benefits. Learn more and comment.
