From Julie

Thanks for a great start to term 4!

October was a very busy month with two tours and one about to get underway!

It began with a group of eight choristers touring Kazakhstan with conductor Paul Holley to sing at the International Choir Festival - Voice of Astana. Congratulations to those involved and the finale concert can be watched here

In mid-October, I was honoured to lead our choristers who had sung at the Centenary of the Battle of Hamel, to Ballarat to play a special part in the 75th anniversary of
Australian work on Hellfire Pass and the completion of the Thai–Burma Railway. While a great focus of our program has been on WW1 over the past few years as part of our commitment to the Department of Veterans' Affairs, it was insightful to learn more about Australia's involvement in WW2 through this short tour. The service was broadcast live and can be viewed here

Our final tour for the year is coming up, with 29 choristers and a group of excited accompanying parents/partners meeting in Paris this Sunday to prepare for the Centenary of the First World War Armistice on Sunday 11 November. This will be a moving event, with notions of celebrations, channelling the relief and joy that would have been felt 100 years ago when WW1 finally ended. I'm looking forward to conducting this choir with Jenny Moon and we'll share details of how to watch the service from home, very soon.

Finally, a special thank you to everyone who attended our Trivia Fundraising Night to support our Western Front Anzac Centenary Touring Project. We'll announce the final fundraising tally once our online silent auction concludes on 19 November. We are so grateful to those who attended, donated items to raffle/auction and to those who helped on the night. A special thank you to Allan, Neil, John, Brad and Rosemary from Ashgrove - The Gap Lions Club for helping us host.

More soon!

Trivia prize - Paying it forward!!!

We were delighted to hear the winner of the bike donated by The Honourable Kate Jones MP was friend to Birralee, Peter Cooper who is a member of Ashgrove - The Gap Lions Club. Peter has decided the bike will be donated to a student at Milpera State High School. Peter noted: "The school caters for non-English speaking students, including children of parents who are seeking asylum. The bike will go to a student who ordinarily could never expect to own a shiny, new, red and pretty cool bike."
