FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Church,

The events over the last several months have certainly been a strain on our congregation. Every active member, and even some who never attend Wilmont events, has felt the impact of us wrestling with a handful of unhappy members. I am grateful that the church this last Sunday night has unanimously approved a motion for us to continue moving toward revitalization and recovery. Your voice was heard, and I am excited about the days ahead.

A Short History
A joint committee of deacons and personnel committee members poured over a mountain of testimonies, documents, emails, and meeting transcripts. It was not an easy job. While they labored to stitch together a timeline from multiple sources to answer questions submitted by the congregation, they were faced with a river of questions pieced together from rumor and innuendo. I think you will agree with me that they did an amazing job. If you get a chance, tell a joint committee member how much you appreciate their work!

For those wanting more information, you are welcome to come to the office or visit with a deacon to read through supporting documents that led them to the conclusions of their report. All research and information is available to anyone who wants to take time to read through it and ask questions.

Where We Go From Here
Let’s get busy! I appreciate the joint committee’s affirmed commitment to text-driven preaching, discipleship, and intentional evangelism. The next several Sunday nights will be consumed with Trunk-or-Treat and Judgement House followed by six weeks of “Can We Talk?”. We want to reach as many homes for the gospel as possible. After that season we will return to our regular Sunday evening worship.

We want to begin working toward a church-wide discipleship plan through our Sunday School classes on Sunday morning. The events of the past months have delayed our progress but we hope to make this an early 2019 objective. Please pray.

Finally, I am grateful that the joint committee recommended a question/conflict resolution process. I am looking forward to working with the church so that every member has a safe place to carry questions or concerns. Revitalization is hard, but we can do this together! Until then, please visit with me, a staff member, or even your Sunday School teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Make sure you are seeking answers and not just propagating questions. At times our progress may seem too fast-paced. Just know we are aware of some of those concerns and are working to balance years of missed opportunity with patience and grace. Pray for us.

Looking forward to great days ahead!
