City of Niagara Falls receives funding
from CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program
Grant to support local planting project at Patrick Cummings Park
NIAGARA FALLS, ON - The City of Niagara Falls has received $11,545 from CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program to plant trees and a pollinator garden at Patrick Cummings Memorial Sports Complex, located at 8965 Willoughby Drive, on Friday, November 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In recent years, hundreds of trees at the park have been infested and killed by the Emerald Ash Borer. This project will help replenish the lost urban canopy. Volunteers from local schools and the surrounding community will come together in November to help plant over 75 trees and also install a 500-square-foot pollinator garden. Anyone interested in volunteering can register online at niagarafalls.ca/pitc.
The grant was made possible by the efforts of The Park in the City Committee and the City’s matching commitment, in kind. CN EcoConnexions grants, in partnership with Tree Canada, provide funding for community greening projects across Canada. This year, more than 140 applications were received by the program from Canadian communities of all types and sizes.
