Have you ever been called an "Angel?”
That's  what people involved in Pug Dog Rescue are considered to be by many of the folks who attended the Pug Dog Club of America's National Specialty dog show this October in Indianapolis.  The show was special because over 300 pugs attended this international show. If you love pugs this was the place to be.  There were puppies and adult pugs, rally pugs, agility pugs, obedience pugs, veteran pugs, and YES there were rescue pugs participating in the show.
" If you think 300 pugs is a lot, try walking in between more than 600 people legs! Pretty                     challenging for a little guy"
Rally  Competition ~ Owner and pug navigate a designated course  side by side.           Signs indicate when the dog is to sit, lie down, stay,  walk around owner or                                 vice versa, and back up,   Any pug may enter this competition.
Slow down, follow the signs.                         I'm right behind you, Mom.
Speed is not important, correctly follow-                 Even the old guys can       ing the signs and owner is what counts.         participate in "rally" competition.
Ch. Firehouse N Shayna  Robert DeNiro CGC TKN RN, called Bobby, struts his stuff with owner/handler Diane Rismann.  Bobby scored a near perfect ninety-eight of one hundred points.
I've got my eye on you.
Agility ~  a sport where the pug is directed through an obstacle course of tunnels seesaws, weave poles, jumps, and inclines.  Speed counts!
Back and forth, back and forth...       Pugs can jump - when they want.

Kimchi is an agility pug, and she is a                                 RESCUE PUG.                She was rescued at two years of age and is
                        fantastic in agility!

My idea of agility is changing positions
                     while taking a nap.
       BRACE COMPETITION
In the Brace competition two dogs of the same breed and ownership
are shown together as a pair.  The competition displays the breeder's
consistency in their breeding program.

Where's Noah, which way to the ark?
Pug Dog Club of America has a Rescue Committee
and a Health fund.  The Rescue Committee disseminates information to rescue groups on fund raising and grants financial aid to rescues in need.  The health committee collects and passes on information reguarding pug health issues, an area people in rescue care very much about.
Dr. Kathleen Smiler is named the new Health Committee Chairperson at the Pug Dog Club of America National . Those associated with Mid Michigan Pug Club know Dr. Smiler from her attendance, along with Dr. Patterson, at our PUGNICS where cheek swabs were taken to continue the research into the genetics of Pug Dog Myelopathy at Michigan State University. A new genetic study is beginning at Purdue University.  That's Noodle, Dr. Smiler's pug manning (or should I say puppying) the table display at the National Show. Dr. Smiler can be contacted for information and questions on the disease at "Wheelie Pugs" on Facebook and Pug Dog Health Rear Ataxia/Paralysis also on Facebook.  Information is also available at pugrearataxiaparalysis.com.
The Big Event
Biggie (shown below) wins Best of Show at the National Specialty - 2018.  Biggie  is indeed a champion who won Best of Breed and Best of the Toy Group at the Westminster Kennel Dog Club Show in 2018.  Biggie is owned by Carolyn Koch and shown by Estaban Farias.  Biggie is three years old.
When all is said and done....
Puppy party in my room at midnight.                  This is how I prepare  for                            Shhh...                                              competition and recover after.
This little pug found a sporty Uber.            All show Pugs must look their best
We're so special,                                Some pugs come to the Nationals          we don't have to walk.                             in style from all over the country.
This Junior Handler takes his job very seriously.
