Artists and cultural traditions demonstrate how resilience can be transformed into beauty, solve problems, pass down heritage and build community. Bridgeport artists epitomize this. They are a cultural resource from diverse backgrounds, specializing in a variety of artforms. This billboard project reflects the creativity and potential that is rejuvenating Bridgeport.

NEW EVENT: Thomas Mezzanotte “I See What You Meme” Exhibit & Open Studio

Art Trail attendees will have the unique opportunity to view the one person exhibit of the work of Tom Mezzanotte at City Lights Gallery. Get a peek behind-the-scenes with a tour of his studio in the American Fabrics Arts Building on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10 & 11, 2018.

About the Exhibit
Viewers are prompted to consider the history of photography, the camera obscura, and the process of sight. In this digital age, photographic imagery is ubiquitous. This provocative exhibit focuses on the basics of vision and how it has been influenced by the invention of the camera and mathematical perspective. Thomas’s mind-bending photography represents his extensive exploration into the evolution of visual cognition.

This exhibit focuses on work made exclusively with pinhole cameras and film. The rudimentary tools that he makes himself, harken back to the origins of photography. By manipulating the shape and orientation of the negative in the camera he creates provocative distortions of the human form. He is intrigued by the curvature of the retina in the human eye and what this suggest about how we see the world. The exhibit poses this question, “Why do we imagine the world as if it is projected onto a flat plain, when in fact the image of the world we see is projected onto a curved surface at the rear of the eye?”

Open Studio - American Fabrics Building
Bridgeport Art Trail visitors will have the rare opportunity to view the exhibit at City Lights Gallery and then tour Thomas’s working studio at the American Fabrics Building (#1). Thomas will host an open house on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10 &11 where the public can further discuss Thomas’s perspective and process and view more of his art and his impressive collection of antique cameras. Attendees can enjoy the gallery exhibit coupled with a studio tour experience, only scheduled during the Bridgeport Art Trail weekend.

Woodstock: Three Days of Peace & Music

The Bijou Theatre
Friday, October 19, 2018
Doors: 6:00 pm / Show: 7:00 pm
The three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 was the pivotal event of the 1960s peace movement, and this landmark concert film is the definitive record of that milestone of rock & roll history. It's more than a chronicle of the hippie movement, however; this is a film of genuine historical and social importance, capturing the spirit of America in transition, when the Vietnam War was at its peak and antiwar protest was fully expressed through the liberating music of the time.

For Americana godfather David Bromberg, it all began with the blues.
His incredible journey spans five-and-a-half decades, and includes – but is not limited to – adventures with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jerry Garcia, and music and life lessons from seminal blues guitarist Reverend Gary Davis, who claimed the young Bromberg as a son. A musician’s musician, Bromberg’s mastery of several stringed instruments (guitar, fiddle, Dobro, mandolin), and multiple styles is legendary, leading Dr. John to declare him an American icon. In producing John Hartford’s hugely influential Aereo-Plain LP, Bromberg even co-invented a genre: Newgrass.
