TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST (Proper 24B)
(21 October 2018)

Ecclesiastes 5:10–20          Hebrews 4:1–13 (14–16)          Mark 10:23–31

By the Voluntary Poverty of Christ, We Enter the Kingdom of God

To love and trust in earthly wealth is vanity. For nothing of this earth will last forever, nor can any of it grant eternal life (Eccl. 5:10). But the one who trusts in God is “occupied with joy in his heart” and is able to sleep in peace, “whether he eats little or much,” because he knows that the “days of his life” are “the gift of God” (Eccl. 5:12, 18–20). The person who trusts in riches cannot sleep, because he “shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand” (Eccl. 5:15). Therefore, it is difficult “for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God” (Mark 20:23). Indeed, it is impossible for man, yet “all things are possible with God” (Mark 20:27). Thus, the Rich Man, Jesus Christ, has made Himself poor and has gone through “the eye of a needle,” through death and the grave, “to enter the kingdom of God” on our behalf (Mark 20:24–25). He is the “great high priest who has passed through the heavens” (Heb. 4:14), so that we may now enter His Sabbath rest by faith in His forgiveness (Heb. 4:3–9).  (Taken from the lectionary summaries on the LCMS website)

Halloween is only 2 weeks away and we are once again doing the trunk or treat to give the local children a safe environment to have fun.  We are in need of candy and small trinkets to hand out as treats.  Please donate whatever you can and bring them to church on Sunday and put them in the tote marked for Trunk or Treat or to the church office during office hours (Monday & Tuesday 10:00 am -2:00 pm & Thursday 11:00 am -3:00 pm)   Any and all help would be appreciated as we did not get a Thrivent Action team this year to cover this as we did last year and we almost ran out last year.  If you have any questions please contact the office at 253-584-2565 or corner William Rogers, Ian Smith or Neal (Budy) Rogers on Sunday.

After October 21st, there will not be a regular volunteer custodian.  The hope is to continue to cover the job tasks with enough volunteers, so that it would not take more than an hour or so of anyone’s time per week.  If you have an interest in helping out, please let Judith Headdress know.

Tasks will not include cleaning up after classes, Food Closet or other activities…this is done by the participants.  Nor does it include cleaning up the kitchen after others who use the kitchen for whatever reason.

Holiday Bazaar - The POP Holiday Bazaar is just 3 weeks away.  Before you know it November 9th and 10th will be here…and gone…and you don’t want to miss it!  This is one of two big annual events here at Prince of Peace to raise monies for the Food Closet.
Vendors are still signing up.  If you know of someone who would like a table to display and sell their crafts, please give them one of our applications located on Table Talk.
Prince of Peace will once again have a table.  Can you make something to donate?  Crafts and baked goods are both welcome.  This year we ask that items for the table are priced by you.  Also, do you have something in good condition to donate to Granny’s Attic?  Everyone loves an upscale rummage sale…so please remember, no clothes, no trash.
Items can be brought in beginning Monday, November 5th.

Prince of Peace is having a Thrivent Action Team Sign Up day this Sunday October 21st to use your action teams before they expire at the end of the year. If you have not used them yet, or do not have a plan for them yet, please consider using them for various ministries and activities at the church before Jan 1. If you need some ideas or inspiration see the list below from Thrivent.  If you need help, just contact Thrivent at 1-800-847-4836 and get your member ID number. We will help you do the rest on Sunday October 21st.
