Canada has legalized recreation cannabis -- how does that affect you?  

It is your responsibility to read and know the laws. What are the risks? Arm yourself with knowledge, read all of the available information and guidelines form the University; City; Provincial; and Federal governments. Ask -- What do you need to know about cannabis?

Remember taking cannabis across Canada's borders for any reason is illegal.

English Conversation Club -- Jump in the conversation! 


Each week we tackle an engaging topic; perfect to practice your English speaking skills! Next week's ECC discussion is Cannabis 101.

Ramon Flores from Alberta Health will cover cannabis basics; potential medical uses for cannabis; explain what is synthetic cannabinoids; how cannabis can affect vulnerable populations; and the Alberta cannabis framework. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your perspectives.

Away from the bright lights of Edmonton, a spectacular night sky awaits!


Gaze at the stars with Campus and Community Recreation for a field trip to Elk Island National Park, November 3.

A park interpreter will guide you through all the constellations visible on this side of the equator. Registration is $42, transportation included, meet at 10:00 pm, 2-610 in the Student Lounge, Van Vliet Complex.

World's Challenge Challenge deadline to submit a statement of interest extended.


You still have time to round up a team and submit your idea! 

The World's Challenge Challenge competition is currently accepting statements of interest from teams until Friday, November 4, 2018.

Propose an innovative solution to a major global issue. The team with the best proposal wins $10,000 to make their solution a reality and will represent UAlberta at the international finals at Western University, with a chance of winning an additional $30,000!

Watch award-winning documentary Anote's Ark
During Sustainability Awareness Week, Global Education will screen the award-winning documentary “Anote’s Ark,” a film which explores the struggles of the small island nation of Kiribati in seeking a new homeland for its people. The film will be followed by an interactive discussion on the central challenges facing climate change migration today, led by Dr. Nicole Marshall.

Sustainability Awareness Week presents speakers, workshops, films, and tours. Meet local experts, understand the issues, pick up new skills, and explore real-life examples of sustainability in your community.

What was your life like in your home country? What cultural differences have you encountered in Canada or at UAlberta? Have you overcome a significant challenge? Have you experienced a time when you felt powerless or a time when you felt powerful? 

We are currently accepting student story submissions. Share a story in whatever medium you feel can best convey your experience; a photo essay, a top ten list, a video, or written article!
