Greenbusch acoustician, Justin Morgan (pictured above with acoustical equipment), was recently featured in an article about the ongoing construction at Port of Everett’s South Terminal. The existing container dock is undergoing a substantial upgrade to accommodate larger vessels and heavier cargo with over 340 new steel piles driven into the 700-foot dock. The noise resulting from impact pile driving are easy to hear above-water and also create underwater disturbances that can disorient, harm or even kill marine life. A bubble curtain has been installed to mitigate these impacts.
Greenbusch is providing hydroacoustic monitoring to assess the effectiveness of the bubble curtain and also provided a Monitoring Plan for the project.
Colman Dock Ferry Terminal, Pier 52, is the largest ferry terminal in the state, serving over nine million customers every year. This facility is being reconfigured and modernized to address seismic concerns, provide safety improvements and operational efficiencies.
Greenbusch is providing vibration and hydroacoustic monitoring to the Hoffman Pacific LLC, joint venture team throughout construction. Hydroacoustic monitoring deliverables include an Underwater Noise Monitoring Plan, daily monitoring results and Hydroacoustic Monitoring Reports. Greenbusch also provided mechanical engineering design for select areas of the new terminal.
Now in construction, the project is phased over six years: 2017–2023.
Working underground in the tunnel section of Sound Transit’s Northgate Link Extension, Greenbusch provided Frequency Response Testing (FRT) of the contractor-installed floating slabs to ensure the light rail system in this section of track is performing as predicted. Greenbusch developed both a Calibration Test Plan and a Production Test Plan for the floating slabs that were designed for vibration mitigation. Staff performed the calibration testing, and recently concluded FRT production testing for the 3200 LF of track located in the two parallel tunnels sited at the southernmost of the new Northgate Extension LRT track.
