St. David Lutheran Church

OCTOBER 17, 2018

11 members from St. David and just as many from Living Springs Lutheran Church went to Arthurtown this past Saturday to renovate several Habitat houses that were built in the 1990's.  No experience was really needed.  The Habitat crew divided us up into paint crews and a demolition/restoration crew.  Pastor Glenn said he loves watching HGTV and this day got to live it!

The persons provided with a Habitat house must work for it.  They have to put in 80 hours working on Habitat houses which one day one will be theirs.  They also must attend classes on house maintenance, yard work and finances.

We will have more opportunities in the near future to help Thrivent/Habitat for Humanity at other locations in the Midlands.

Lutheran World Relief - Quilts

About 70 quilts will be displayed before worship service this Sunday.  Pastor Boland will bless them during worship before they are packed to be sent to Lutheran World Relief in Maryland for distribution.

Sponsors can donate the $2.50 shipping cost for each quilt by removing the envelope attached to each quilt, and place your donation in the offering plate or give to Ann Alexander or one of the Quilters.

REFORMATION SUNDAY

October 28, 2018

Why are Lutheran Church doors Red?

Dr. Richard C Hoefler, dean of Christ Chapel at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (1983), said, “Christians have entered into worship, into the presence of God, through the blood of Christ...We are called into the church by God, where He equips you, and then we are sent out again."  It is also said that a red door in the Lutheran Church harkens back to the time of Martin Luther, who posted his 95 Theses on the red doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany.  Red doors on Protestant churches indicate their roots in the Reformation.

Psalm 25: 14-15

The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Where does true deliverance come from? Only from God. Deliverance is found in God through deep reverential respect for his holiness and might, through living in covenant relationship with him, and through maintaining our focus on him. Any other roads to deliverance are false and ultimately prove themselves to be a snare. Like the tight rope walker whose eyes are not on the ground or the surroundings, but on the rope in front of him where he will walk, so too our eyes must be on the Lord. Only by looking to him will he lead us to safety.

My Prayer...

Precious Father, you have done so much to save me. You who are so holy and righteous, have reached down to take my hand when I was a sinner and in rebellion to your love. Teach me your ways. Correct the wrongs in my life. Guide me into the ways of your truth. I want to not only be saved from my sin, but from days of uselessness and frustration. Make me a vessel that can be used to honor you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
