$200 MILLION BUILDING BETTER REGIONS FUND NOW OPEN
Do you have a project for your local community that would improve and increase liveability?

I’m looking for community-building projects from the entire Maranoa electorate to benefit from a new round of Federal Government funding worth $200 million, specifically targeted at our bush communities.

Round three of the BBRF is now open, until November 15, to help address the challenges faced by bush communities with this round also focusing on tourism.

During the previous two BBRF rounds, I’ve secured more than $18.9 million for exciting infrastructure and community building projects across Maranoa.

Funding under the BBRF is available in two streams:
  • Infrastructure Projects Stream: Investment into the construction of new infrastructure, or upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure.
  • Community Investments Stream: Investment in local events and activities, strategic regional plans and leadership and capability building activities.

NORTHERN BASIN REVIEW LOCKED IN
  • The Northern Basin Review Amendment cemented
  • 70 gigalitres of water retained by Northern Basin Communities
  • Northern Basin water recovery target reduced from 390 GL to 320 GL
We’ve done it – I’m pleased to say to Northern Basin communities that last month the Northern Basin Review (NBR) was cemented after passing one last hurdle, giving you certainty to move forward.

I have delivered the Basin Plan on time and in full, as promised.

The Northern Basin Review process was included in the Basin Plan with the agreement of all jurisdictions in 2012. However, the parliamentary disallowance period for the NBR instrument formally expiredlast month, meaning the Senate can no longer repeal the NBR through a simple disallowance vote.

On July 2, 2018 I signed the NBR instruments following agreement with the Labor Party to end the water wars.

The NBR is supported by $40 million through the Indigenous Land Corporation to support Basin communities invest in cultural and economic water entitlement and associated planning activities. We also invested in a $20 million grant programme to help economic adaptation for communities on the Northern and Southern Basin most impacted by the Basin plan.
REVIEW OF FARM HOUSEHOLD ALLOWANCE BEGINS
Meeting the new Farm Household Allowance Review Board (from left) former director of the Federal Government’s Behavioural Economics Team and Sydney University Economics Professor Robert Slonim; Agricultural Industry Advisory Council member, dairy farmer and Review Board chairman Michele Lawrence; and Agforce deputy chairman and cattle farmer Georgie Somerset.
A review of Farm Household Allowance (FHA) has begun to make sure the hardship payment is supporting farmers as well as possible.

We want to hear from farming families (both FHA recipients and those who haven’t received the payment), advisors and support networks such as accountants, agricultural advisers, agronomists, financial planners, Rural Financial Counsellors, stockists, succession planners, industry and the general public.

The independent review panel will make recommendations to Federal Government in the first-half of 2019.

Queensland LNP Leader MP Deb Frecklington and I stand shoulder to shoulder supporting Lindsay and Teresa Francis after their orchard was hit by the hail storm on October 11 at Kumbia in the South Burnett.

Until next time
