ESSIAL newsletter #2

In this edition we focus on the laser treatment processes in ESSIAL, and the role of MULTITEL and LASEA in the project.

Interview of Yves Hernandez, head of the Applied Photonics Department at MULTITEL

Yves tells us about the crucial role of lasers in ESSIAL, and what challenges Multitel has to tackle.
Multitel has completed the first campaign of uniform laser treatment

In the beginning of the project (M1 to M8) MULTITEL performed tests to select the right laser parameters like pulse duration, power, scanning speed, or pattern. The objective is now to reduce the parameters set to a minimum.

LASEA uses a hybrid welding process to optimize ESSIAL samples

One of the ESSIAL objectives is to develop a new innovative technique for the insulation of magnetic sheets in order to eliminate any damage to the magnetic properties due to additional mechanical actions (riveting, crimping, classical metal-metal welding …). The study of the hybrid metal/polymer weld on flat samples will be used to validate the concept of isolated assembling of the magnetic circuit.
