Data Update
Topographic Surveys

All of the 2018 repeat baseline surveys and the annual Isles of Scilly survey have been completed and have been sent for upload to the website. The latest profile data is available for immediate viewing on the new map viewer. The 2018 autumn interim surveys are almost complete with a few remaining survey units left which will be captured before the end of the survey window this month.

Post-Storm Surveys
Post-storm surveys were carried out at West Bay and Chesil Beach following Storm Callum. The autumn interim surveys palnned for Dawlish Warren and Exmouth were also brought forward to capture storm damage. Additional post-storm surveys were carried out at Dawlish Warren and Exmouth following changes to the beaches in November.

Beer Baseline Survey
On behalf of East Devon District Council we successfully carried out spring and autumn interim surveys, along with a summer baseline survey at Beer, Devon to assist the Seaton beach management plan.

Blackpool Sands Survey
Repeat baseline surveys at Blackpool sands are now being carried out each summer to complement the existing repeat baseline surveys in Start Bay and provide information on the entire embayment.
Aerial Photography
Portland Bill to Start Point and the Isles of Scilly were flown last summer and are complete. Lands End to Hartland Point has been captured and QC checked and sent for upload to the website. Start Point to Lands End has been captured, however due to issues regarding cloud cover, discussions are ongoing to decide if the area will be reflown next year. Finally, photography has been captured between Hartland Point and Portishead. The northern Severn Estuary is outstanding and will be captured at the first suitable opportunity next year.
LiDAR Capture
This year LiDAR is being captured along the entire south west coastline. Currently, 37% of the south west coast has been captured, including the whole of Lyme Bay. The areas displayed in pink on the map show areas that have been captured and the areas in blue are still outstanding. The remainder of the LiDAR is due to be flown by the end of March 2019.
Office News
PCO welcome our newest recruit Joseff Saunders who has joined the team following Cristina's departure. He will be the main point of contact for any queries regarding South Cornwall.
Josie Alice Kirby is currently on maternity leave and will be returning to PCO in the new year.
Welsh Coastal Monitoring Centre Training Visit
In June, PCO led a two day training day representatives from the Welsh Coastal Monitoring Centre. The first day consisted of an introduction to the Programme, survey planning, beach surveying theory, data processing and PCO's quality checking procedure.

On the second day the PCO team led a training survey at Seaton, Cornwall. Various surveying techniques were demonstrated and practiced such as tripod set up and leveling, RTK base station setup, control checks on known points, beach profiling, continuous surveying and common technical issues encountered in the field. Everyone was able to get involved and practice using the RTK GPS equipment. The course was well received by all who attended.

Slapton Ley Field Centre visit
In July, Jennifer and Joshua visited the Slapton Ley Field Centre showcasing the various different types of data PCO collect and providing a website demonstration on how to access and download our data.
