Mission Emphasis – Crossways Community

Crossways Community is opening a new community café at 17-19 Camden Road TW.  The café will be a great place to drink, eat and catch up for all our community. Run by appropriately trained staff the café will provide the following:
  • A haven for those with low-moderate mental problems.  Our café will be a place where ‘it’s OK not to be OK’
  • A café where the focus is on the conversations and not the cake
  • A refuge for the lonely and the troubled
  • An open, warm and supportive atmosphere
  • Drinks, cakes and simple lunches at reasonable prices affordable by those on lower incomes
  • A chance to talk to a counsellor or staff member, ask for prayer or just be quiet
  • Opportunities for work experience for those with mental health issues
  • Signposting of other relevant organisations, activities and support which can help those with poor mental health
We think this is an exciting venture which we believe will be a useful resource for our community.  Please pray for the café, those who work in it and those who come to it as we reach out into our community.  If you would like to be involved in the café or would like to rent the space at all then please contact us at Crossways.  www.crosswayscommunity.co.uk

Budget advice course from Crosslight (previously West Kent Debt Advice)
The Christian-based charity in Tunbridge Wells is holding a Money Essentials Course at Tunbridge Wells Baptist Church on Saturday 24 November from 10.00am - 12.30pm.  The morning is free - see below for details of the course.  If you have any questions about the course, would like a colourful poster and/or flyers, please email Mike.ODriscoll@crosslightadvice.org. It is ideal for newly married couples, students, anyone whose finances are in a bit of a muddle, or even those just trying to save money.
THE MONEY COURSE by CROSSLIGHT ADVICE
What is it? - Although we all use money every day, none of us can claim to be perfect at handling it well all the time, and most of us have got ourselves into difficulty at one time or another.  Alternatively you may just want help putting aside money for that holiday, or to save for something else.
The Money Course Essentials workshop is a simple, friendly session run by experienced advisers which we hope will help you to manage your money better.
Who is it for? - The workshops are for anyone – let’s face it, few of us are experts with money.  So, whatever your situation, we hope the workshop will be useful, but we particularly think it will be relevant if you are worried about your money situation, or if your finances are in a bit of a muddle. Why not bring a friend or partner?
How long will it last and where is it held?  The workshop lasts around two and a half hours including breaks, and there are plenty of practical exercises and opportunities for discussion and questions. It will be held in the Baptist Church in Upper Grosvenor Road.
What topics will you cover?
• Why budgeting is so important and why we often find it so difficult
• How you can start creating your own simple budget
• Tips for keeping your spending under control and getting your budget to balance so you don’t run out of money at the end of the month
• The idea of ‘Piggy Banking’ to make sure you stay on top of your bills and have enough money for the things you need.
How big are the groups?  We think smaller groups work best, as that way everyone has the opportunity to ask questions and participate if they would like to, so 4-20 is the usual number of guests.
Will I have to talk about my situation?  Not if you don’t want to! It’s always great to hear people’s experiences and ideas, but no one is going to ask you to speak if you’d prefer not to.

The workshops are completely free. If it is for you and you want to book a place, please visit our website to book your place: www.crosslightadvice.org/themoneycourse, I know you will find it helpful.  The course will be from 10.00 to 12.30 on Saturday 24 November. If you would prefer to book by telephone, please call 020 7052 0318.
