WHEN
Saturday 10th November

WHERE
Te Piere o te Rangi (WITT Campus)

START
8.45am – 5.15pm

PURPOSE
Ākonga will develop skills and application of research and the principles of kotahitanga and whanaungatanga in the context of holistic Māori world view.
Ākonga will develop an understanding of how the principles of kotahitanga and whanaungatanga support effective governance principles, communication skills and strategies in the context of an entity or entities.

1. Apiti hono tatai hoho: Kotahitanga & Whanaungatanga
This foundation course provides an understanding of the overall aspects of Governance. Specifically this course will require an understanding of the key concept of interconnectedness from a holistic Māori world view. One example of this might be that governance decisions made to commercially farm in a particular area might adversely impact other important aspects of a whenua block. Another key feature of this course is gaining an understanding that what might commonly be considered as principles of 'good governance' might not be appropriate for all entities – that one size does not fit all.
Akonga will likely require an understanding of the need for effective processes, including meeting processes, and the need to work together as a governance team.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. Identify and explain the key principles of kotahitanga in effective governance and explore strategies to apply them to a relevant entity or entities.
2. Identify and explain the key principles of whanaungatanga and how to implement effective communication skills and strategies.
