Campus Sustainability Highlights

UC named a national leader in renewable energy 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency honored the University of California on October 10, 2018, with a 2018 Green Power Leadership Award for its strong commitment to using clean, renewable energy sources. It’s the second year in a row that the EPA has recognized UC’s leadership and commitment to “green” energy, which it defines as electricity that is generated from environmentally-preferable resources. 
 

UC San Diego wins 2018 Drive Electric Award

Plug In America created the Drive Electric Awards to shine a spotlight on the people and organizations striving to accelerate the transition to vehicle electrification in the United States. UC San Diego was awarded for its many programs that advance EV access and technology, including the installation of 130 charging portals. 
 

UC Merced students take the lead in LEED certification of Science and Engineering 1 Building

The Science and Engineering 1 Building recently achieved gold certification under LEED Operations and Maintenance criteria. An Engineering Service Learning team composed of students from various disciplines spearheaded the SE1 certification process during the spring 2016 and fall 2017 semesters. The LEED Lab course takes students through the steps of the LEED O & M process and, by the end of the course, they are prepared to take the professional credential exam.
 

TV News Coverage: UC Davis Medical Center kitchen goes farm-to-fork

Earlier this month, the UC Davis Medical Center began serving farm-to-fork meals to patients. "Having the fresh ingredients, having things in-season, you get the peak flavors out of them. There's no preservative and you get clean labels," said sous-chef Jet Aguirre. The farm-to-fork items were the vision of executive chef Santana Diaz, who spearheaded a similar gourmet effort at the Golden 1 Center before joining UC Davis Health. He has also added fresh local ingredients to the menu at the hospital's cafe.
 

Take the UC San Diego campus sustainability tour!

UC San Diego Sustainability is excited to announce the launch of the first campus walking tour available on the UCSD Map.  This self-guided tour will take you through the various sustainability locations nestled throughout the campus. Explore innovative sustainability efforts in their living lab, and visit other sustainability locations under several categories, including Clean Energy, Garden, LEED Certified Buildings, and Research & Innovation.

Call for AASHE Webinar Proposals

Have you presented a fantastic session at an AASHE conference (or other campus sustainability conference) that you’d like to share with a larger audience? Do you have an idea for a webinar that would be appropriate for the AASHE community? Would you like to share your knowledge in a particular subject area? If so, AASHE invites you to contribute to the Call for Webinar Proposals. 
 

Collegiate Wind Competition 2020 - Request for Proposal

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Renewable Energy Laboratory has issued a Request for Proposal for colleges and universities interested in participating in the DOE Collegiate Wind Competition 2020. The organizers will select 10 to 12 teams of students to compete in the challenge, co-located with the American Wind Energy Association's WINDPOWER Conference in Denver, Colorado on June 1–4, 2020.
