We value (A)dventist education, (C)oaching leaders,
(T)otally involving members in ministry, & (S)piritually growing in Jesus. This is Washington ACTS!
"Side by side we stand, awaiting God's command, worshiping the saving King. Living by His grace and moving on in faith, Jesus will see us through."

In memory of composer Jeff Wood, in anticipation of heaven,
and in a collective anthem of hope and wholeness

First Responders....Worship

by Randy Maxwell, Washington Conference Prayer Ministries coordinator, and Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

It is doubtful anyone has had a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, quite like Job (apologies to Alexander).

In one day, Job lost his oxen, donkeys, sheep, camels, servants, and all his children. No one could have blamed Job had he cursed God and said, “I’m done with you!” But that’s not what he did. “At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship,” (Job 1:20).

In the midst of unimaginable grief, Job’s first response to calamity was to worship. “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised,” (vs. 21).

We believe Job has something to teach us about first responses.

Some of the actions taken at Annual Council in Battle Creek, Michigan, have left many feeling like they’re living through a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day…again. Though not to be compared with Job, some are grieving and lashing out in ways that all but say to the church, “I’m done with you!”

But for a people whose very identity is defined by the three angels in Revelation 14, the first of which gives a global call to “Fear God and…Worship Him,” worship should be our habitual and first response in any circumstance.

Walking with Jesus: Adventures in Adventist Education

Student artwork makes the best gift for a teacher! Sherri Crooker, Washington Conference's instructional coach, recently presented a Week of Prayer for Sky Valley Adventist School in Monroe. She shared with scholars about her trek over the Washington section of the Pacific Crest Trail.

As the students learned about walking with Jesus, they decorated a walking stick (among other activities) with Bible verse cards they had collected. One of Crooker's favorite moments: being gifted with student artwork depicting a plane flying away to a pre-paid destination vacation!

"My heart and soul were filled as I got to sing, pray, share, and learn alongside the precious scholars and educators on campus," Crooker says. "It’s amazing how quickly friendships are made when hearts are open."

Upcoming Education Survey

Washington Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is reaching out to current and former parents, members, and prospective families to gain their perceptions of Adventist Education and how we can improve for the future.

You, as a Washington Conference e-subscriber, will be receiving up to four survey-related email invitations from info@washingtonconference.org that will be co-signed by Doug Bing, president, and Craig Mattson, vice president for education.

The survey has about 30 questions and should take about 10 minutes of your time. Your answers are held in confidence by our research partner Campbell Rinker, who will present them in aggregate to Washington Conference. This survey is jointly presented by Washington and Potomac Conferences, funded by the North American Division, and coordinated by Campbell Rinker.

Whatever your experience with Adventist Christian Education,
we value your feedback and thank you for your time and input!
