IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING HOURS AND LOCATIONS
In-person absentee voting will begin October 15, 2018.  Below is a schedule of the voting hours and locations in the City where you can cast an absentee ballot before the November 6 General Election.  You will need to present a valid form of proof of ID to receive an absentee ballot.  If you are not already registered to vote at your current address, you may register to vote, with proof of residence, at either voting location.

Business Improvement District

Sun Prairie BID announces Sponsors and Street Vendors for Downtown is Open Celebration fundraiser event
The Sun Prairie Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) would like to announce that it is hosting a Downtown is Open Celebration fundraiser on Saturday October 20 from 4:00-9:00PM. The premise of the event is to encourage everyone to visit Downtown Sun Prairie to support businesses that are open and within close proximity to the disaster explosion site that occurred on July 10.

The event will be located on the 200 block of E. Main Street in Downtown Sun Prairie. The 200 block of E. Main Street will be closed beginning at 1:00PM at Church and Market Streets, and at Columbus and King Streets to traffic for event set-up and during the event. Three local bands have agreed to perform at no charge for the event, and include: 3 Miles Away, Gina and the GLDs, and Rufus.

The Sun Prairie Lions Club will provide bartending services and help in a variety of volunteer positions.  The BID is partnering with Wisconsin Distributors to provide beer for this event. A variety of beer will be on tap, including special release and limited-run Potosi Sun Prairie Strong Pils. The block will be filled with 17 (seventeen) Street Vendors, a variety of businesses that will set up pop-up spaces in a market-style format.

There is no entry fee to attend the event. Net proceeds from the event, from financial sponsorships and beer sales, will be donated as follows: 50% to the Sun Prairie Disaster Relief Fund, and 50% to support the Downtown BID’s Beautification efforts.

The Presenting Sponsor of the event is the Bank of Sun Prairie. When asked about the sponsorship, Bank of Sun Prairie President and CEO Jimmy Kauffman said, “We are very proud to partner with our local businesses and be a part of the resilient downtown area.  This event is about moving forward, together, which has us excited about the future of our community.”

Other sponsors include the following: Event Sponsor Eddie’s Alehouse and Eatery, H&H Foundation Inc., and TDS Telecommunications LLC. Salvatore’s Tomato Pies is a Donating Sponsor for this event. Friends of Downtown In-Kind Sponsors include Full Compass Systems, Hometown News Group’s the Sun Prairie Star publication, Ross Electric, and The Country Plumber Inc.

There are a variety of Street Vendors for this event, and include the following shops, restaurants, and specialty services businesses: Burn Boot Camp, Eddie’s Alehouse & Eatery, Glass Nickel Pizza, Grasshopper Goods, Hen & Rooster Vintage, James Steeno Gallery, Lizbeth Design LCC, Market Street Diner, Nest Interior Design, Prairie Flowers & Gifts, Razor Sharp Screen Printing, TDS, The Nitty Gritty, The Wire Basket, TruHome Inc., US Cellular Quality Cellular, and Waxing the City.

The intent of all BID-sponsored activities and events is to bring awareness to the variety of unique shops, specialty services businesses, and restaurants and bars that are located in Downtown Sun Prairie, and encourage event participants to visit Downtown Sun Prairie again soon.

Sun Prairie BID presents 12th Annual Downtown Fall Festival!
The Sun Prairie Business Improvement District is pleased to announce details for the 12th Annual Downtown Sun Prairie Fall Festival on Saturday, October 20 from 11:00AM – 4:00PM.
Stop by Cannery Square for free horse-drawn wagon rides from 11:00AM - 1:00PM, and enjoy a Halloween Sing-a-Long from 1:00 - 2:00PM courtesy of Two Birds from The Piano Gal Shop.
In addition, there are several participating businesses involved in Fall Festival. The variety of activities and promotions happening throughout Downtown Sun Prairie are as follows:

SPHS Football Playoffs
Congratulations to the Sun Prairie Cardinals football team for making it to the playoffs this season. Sun Prairie Media Center will again offer coverage of all playoff games. All home playoff games will air live on KSUN-TV (Charter 983 & TDS 13/1013) and on The Sun, 103.5 FM Community Radio. Any away games will air live on 103.5 FM.
The first playoff game is set for Friday, October 19, as the #3 Cardinals take on #6 Middleton with a start time of 7:00 PM at Ashley Field. Tune in to KSUN-TV or The Sun, 103.5 FM tomorrow night to catch all the action. Go Cardinals!

2018 KIDS-4 Share Night at Culver’s a Record-Breaker
Culver’s of Sun Prairie, at 1501 West Main Street, held what has become an annual “KIDS-4 Share Night” on Monday, October 8. The night was a remarkable success, resulting in a Culver’s donation of $653.85 to the Parents of KIDS-4 fundraising group.

The 2018 total topped the previous best total by a whopping 79 percent!
The Parents of KIDS-4 group held the event to raise money to support the KIDS-4 program, which operates out of the Sun Prairie Media Center studios at 1350 Linnerud Drive.

The Sun Prairie Media Center would like to thank Culver’s, the parent and Media Center Commission board members who volunteered, and of course all of the community members, whether involved in the program or not, who ate at Culver’s on October 8.

Storytime
Storytime is geared for children approx. ages 2.5 to 5; all ages are welcome to attend! Children under the age of 3 are encouraged to sit on their caregiver’s lap.  Preschool Storytimes are about 30 minutes long and are filled with books, songs, fingerplays, action rhymes, puppets, dramatics, simple crafts, and more a variety every week!  Each week is a new theme. Registration recommended, but not required.
Starts the week of September 18 and runs every week through the week of November 5.  Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

FINAL Brush Collection
To ensure collection of your materials, please make sure they are set out properly by 7:00 AM on the first day of the collection week. To view the schedule for the entire year, it can be found here.
 
Brush collection will occur for all routes beginning on Monday, November 5. This will be the last collection for 2018. Have all materials out properly by 7:00 AM to ensure collections. For more information on proper set out visit the Public Works brush webpage.
 
Fall Yard Waste Collections
The first fall collections began October 15. If you have missed the collections for your area, a second round of collections will begin Monday, November 26 at 7:00 AM. ** Note: this is not the same date listed on the Town Planner Calendar- it was rescheduled in case the leaves fall late. Yardwaste can also be taken to the Recycle Center with a permit.

Police Department

On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, Sun Prairie Police Chief Pat Anhalt presented Officer Adem Hadji the ceremonial oath of office and a badge pinning. Members of the Sun Prairie Police and Fire Commission were on hand along with Mayor Esser to watch the ceremonial oath and badge pinning.

The Sun Prairie Police Department welcomes our community members to join us at a Neighborhood Watch informational meeting on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:30 PM at the Westside Community Building (2598 West Main Street).
 
Topics will include the police department’s role in Neighborhood Watch, tips for being a good “watcher” and home security tips. Neighbors can use this opportunity to organize and develop their own neighborhood watch groups.

Our Police, Fire, and EMS departments were honored at the Rakshabandhan Celebration on Friday, October 5, 2018. Hindu Swaymsevak Sangh organizes several community events across the United States to promote social harmony and oneness. Rakshabandhan is an Indian festival that is celebrated to recognize those who protect people and society. The celebration took place at our west facility.
