"What next?"
This Sunday, we continue our fall sermon series, The Way of Love: Practices for Jesus-Centred Life. The practice we're exploring this week is "Go: Cross boundaries, listen deeply, and live like Jesus".
In the last five weeks, we've focused on Turning to God, Learning from Scripture, Praying regularly, Blessing others and Worshipping regularly.
What next? This profound question, which usually comes unbidden into our lives at the most inopportune time, brings with it friends. Who am I to be able to face this time? What is the next step that needs to be taken?
This week we shall engage the story of Jesus appearing to the disciples as told in John 20:19-23. A key phrase that Rev. Keith Howard wonders about is this: As (God the) Father has sent me, so I send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit…”
Are this call and commission too big, too small or irrelevant?
This Sunday these questions will poke at us as we gather in worship. There will be music, laughter, tears and the possibility of a new orientation towards abundant life.
