Bookings for the 2019 SRP Festival in Durham on April 12/14 opens on November 1st.

You will have seen elsewhere the excellent programme that the Durham Branch has put together for us, including all the usual playing opportunities and shops, but plus a Fringe Festival of Recitals, Red Priest Concert on Friday evening, and the new Composers Competition. It promises to be an outstanding weekend and I do hope you will be able to come.

The Festival will also include our annual conference, but in order to ensure that conference delegates can attend the entire Festival and not miss any Sunday events the organisers have scheduled the conference to take place on Friday afternoon ahead of the formal opening of the event and the Friday evening opening concert.

There will be many important topics to discuss at conference, and your feedback, contributions and votes are very important to us in order to ensure that our Society is meeting the wishes of our members while meeting our charitable goals.

I would encourage every branch to send a delegate to the conference, and that each branch discusses the agenda ahead of the conference in order to ensure that their delegate can reflect the views of the majority of their branch members.

In the meantime if you have any questions or comments about the Society do contact me directly.

Kind Regards,

Vic

The 2018 SRP/Moeck International Solo Recorder Competition Winner, Silvia Berchtold, will return to Blackheath to perform her winner’s recital on Friday 9th November, 5pm at All Saints’ Church with Gerhard Abe-Graf on harpsichord.

Her programme will include music by Ucellini, Ravi Shankar, Arañés and improvisations after Hildegard von Bingen.

FINGER WARM-UPS

Play a trill on every finger, not forgetting your thumb. Always use a clock to time this — spend 30 seconds on each finger, but after a few days, make that a minute. It’s not a huge amount of fun, but it works!
